Post subject: Directories for backlinks?
|
|
|
Hello,
I have a webstore that I have submitted to a few PR6 and PR7 directories. Not DMOZ
Will this help in my SEO efforts? Do directories count toward good one-way links? _________________ BillyA

Yes and yes.
Here's an article by Ralph Wilson covering the Top 25 Article Directories and Free Content Sites Ranked by Alexa and PageRank.
Cheers,
Charlie.
P.S. I've just realised I've not quite answered your question, but the same applies to site directories as article directories. Quality not quantity will help. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Post to as many website directories as you can. After all, each one is an additional link pointing to your website. The engines may weigh them differently across sites, but very much worth your efforts. _________________ Avalon

Submitting to directories should be an integrant part of your marketing. info.vilencer has an excellent list.
You may consider oustsourcing, because it is a really boring task. _________________ ==> AffiloBlueprint Affiliate Marketing Training.

I think that sometimes you have to weigh things up.
Yes, getting some links from a ‘number’ of good directories is almost essential for the health of your site. If you can find a few relevant niche specific directories - so much the better.
But when it comes to the ‘smaller’ directories I think that you have got to ask yourself if they are worth your time.
You could say that an inbound link is an inbound link and that’s a good thing to have, but . . .
. . . some directories aren’t even indexed by Google and co, some may have a nice PR4 on their home page but when it comes to the page that your link ends up on . . . ziltch! And some will even list you with a ‘no follow’ link.
Yes, you can check all these things before you submit but you could also be spending your time more profitably
Charlie,
Thanks for the link to Ralph Wilson’s list. Some good article directories on there that I didn’t know of. Nice one. _________________ Why Do Most Affiliates Make Less Than $500 Per Month?

You're welcome.
You've probably heard of Ralph before, but if you aren't on his lists I'd suggest you get on them. His stuff is most definitely not the usual rehashed crap...
In this area, that's a refreshing change.
Cheers,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Of course. Where do you think mutual acquaintances get all their good ideas from? Well, a couple of the older ones, anyway...
He's on the lists - or was. Sauce for the goose, and all that.
Cheers,
