I agree with Debs. I think you can make it in this market if you have a unique niche, and an excitement to see results.
While I was unemployed last year for about 6 months, I learned how to build websites using simple html. I didn't buy a single book, I simply visited a lot of the webmaster help websites. Most of them show you the basics of html, and even how to promote your website.
Since, youre a beginner, I recommend that you first get a website via Hypermart. It is actually where I got started. I found their interface really easy to use compared to the other webhosting sites. You wont get a top level domain name, and you will have to run their ads on your website, but just practice on it. After enough practice, you'll gradually start understanding how things work.
Itll take some time if you plan on building your own website. You can only learn through trial and error. Once you get the hang of it, youll be so addicted to it. I know I am.
I have a fulltime job, but my website does serve as a secondary income source. My sites been running about a half a year, and its bringing in about $500 to $600 a month steadily. I believe I can increase my commissions with more traffic. Im only receiving an avg of 100 visitors per day. But like I said, if your traffic is very targetted, youll get sales, and click throughs. Can you imagine, at the rate that Im going, if I were to increase my traffic to 1000 visitors per day, I would be potentially bringing in $5000 to $6000 a month. Wow.
