Post subject: My site is kinda ready, advice would be greatfully received

First of all, thank you for your advice in my previously post, and for all the general advice provided in this forum.
I got bored waiting/hoping that Yahoo would put my site in its directory, so I thought I'd stick the advertising on it and see how it does. If things go well, an investment in Yahoo may well be worthwhile!
Anyway, the casino section of it is quite well set. The sports bit needs a bit of work (mainly cause its always changing and I need proper time and a routine to update it). If anyone wishes to have a look and let me know what they think, then I'd be very glad to hear from them. This is my first website (other than a very poor first attempt at something I had little interest in), so I'm kinda feeling my way in the dark at the moment. Its located at http://www.betting-on-the-net.com (apologises if this is spam, but I know this kind of post has been accepted here in the past as a means of helping).
And if anyone knows where I can get some serious content about the superbowl, or even learn about it, please tell me. I'm from England and know nothing about it, but its something I really have to cover due to the genre of my site (even though I'm not exactly racking up the traffic at the moment!)
Thanks again for any help/advice.
Pete

Ohhhh Pete! I looked at your site, nice structure, design. The only thing I didn't like was no stretch to accomodate difference browser resolutions.
I found your font very small (I use Netscape 7/Mozilla/Gecko browser) so I enlarged the font. Your design literally self destructed before my eyes, text overlapping images and vice versa, absolutely unreadable. A design that stretches with resolution as opposed to fixed sizes will go a ways toward helping avoid this. You also have a fixed height, not a good idea as it is very poorly supported in most browsers.
I doubt you would even get peeked at for directory inclusion with cross browser problems like that.

Thanks for letting me know. I've only seen it on my home computer, my work computer and parent's computer, so I was unaware of this.
Any ideas on how to solve this problem? I used a program called webdrawf to make it, and it looks pretty (and admittedly uses a small font), but as I said earlier, its my first proper shot at this stuff, and I've had no education in website design or programming. I've just been learning by doing, and reading other people's advice and trying to impliment it.
Thanks

I would suggest you pick up a book on html, check your local library. Try to get one that deals with CSS (cascading style sheets) for formatting. Otherwise, for a quick fix, get a template that is cross browser compatible, and just modify it to fit your style and colors. Your outline is relatively simple in style, so it shouldn't be hard to even find a free template that would work.
If you see something you like, that you think will work, let me know the url (PM me) and I would be happy to check it out for you.

Hi Debs,
Thanks for getting back to me. Unfortunately, I think I may have to leave it as it is for now. I have a few things in my life at the moment that stop me being able to commit significant amounts of time to my website (work, travelling, exams!!). If anyone else is e3xperiencing the same problem with it, please let me know so I can get a feel for how bad the problem is.
I will note the problem, and after the exams are over (JulY!!), I will look at using a different program to re-do it (Dreamweaver perhaps? suggests/recommendations welcome - but the program must be simple to use!!!).
In the meantime, I like the presentation of my site and am very reluctant to change it. I have looked at many templates in the past, before I started and wasn't too keen on any of them. I think the appearance of my site is perhaps the one thing that makes it stand out (if you have the right browser ).
Thanks for your kind offer to look at templates that I see, but as I said earlier, I really do not want to xhange the design and haven't got the time to learn significant amounts of new stuff yet.
Thanks for your help and advice. It is very much appreciated.
Pete

I get a very large chunk of nothing down the right. After your third column... Your fonts are a bit small... and the flashy banners in the right column are hard on the eyes... Do they product any clicks? _________________ Eric D. Burdo

Pete,
Try this in the meantime, one page first, then we can test and see if it fixes it:
In all the <div> tags ... remove the height=X (where X is a number) Try that and see if it works, it may. At least to the point where the text etc won't override, etc.
Ex:
<div id="Oobj4" style="position:absolute;z-index:1;visibility:visible; left:-7px;top:81px;width:789px;height:6px;color:#000000;font-size:1px;">
you would remove height:6px;
(don't forget the semi-colon after the "px" as well.

Thanks Debs and Edburdo for your comments.
On my parents computer I got the same thing as Edburdo got - a strip of purple down the right hand side. The problem I have is that I don't know how to solve it and don't really have the time to fix it (until July), unless I can find a quick fix.
The banners I can do nothing about. They are produced by the casinos and they all seem to be into flashing banners (sorry!). The affiliate agreements all prohibit me from modifying or creating my own banners. The casinos that I have affiliated with are all established online casinos and therefore with not rip out me or my visitors (which is the most important thing).
In terms of the fix you advised Debs, I tried it, and on my computer it does cause a few problems - a few banners overlap, and the word football in the left hand menu moves below the yellow strip at the bottom (maybe I'll have to tinker a bit with it, if it fixes the other problems). The effects of removing "height" from the code can be seen at http://www.betting-on-the-net.com/baccarat100.html. I'd be interested to see if it does solve any the problems you have been experiencing.
Once again, thank you for your help and advice. I really appreciate it.
