Post subject: Adsense and DMOZ - incompatible ?
|
|
|
I just got accepted in Adsense. Remarkably fast; it took 6 hours.
I have also applied for registration in DMOZ. I have a few affiliate links already. Should I wait to paste in the Adsense code, or will I be rejected anyway because of that, or what? _________________ DatabaseDesigner

It should make no difference but some editors take a hardline on affiliate links/ads. They are supposed to view the site as content ... and judge it based on whether it is a unique, quality site that can stand alone w/o the ads ... if it can (as I know your site can), then it should be approved.
However, it can take months, sometimes longer, to get into DMOZ depending on whether the category has an editor, how swamped the category is, etc. Whether you wait is, ultimately, up to you.
You can take a rejection to the editor's supervisor for review. If you can show just cause for approval, you have a good chance on being approved the 2nd time around.
Hope this helps,

It definitively helps, Debs, And thank you so much for sharing this with me.
Actually, I was determined to start pasting the Adsense links into my site, whatsoever, and I just need a good night's sleep (it's midnight here right now) before I'll do it.
BTW: Thanks for your kind words with regards to my site: the last two weeks I have suffered severely from write blocking; I think I am about to recover soon. I know i'm having good company in Charlie and Larry; not neccessarily in that order _________________ DatabaseDesigner

I just came out of my writer and procrastinator blocks so I know how you feel. Never fret, never fear, it happens to all of us!

A lot of people assume that DMOZ is a non-commercial directory but it's not. It will list any site, commercial or non-commercial, if the content is unique.
Affiliate links (or AdSense) may make the editor look more closely to make sure that your site is useful but they won't stop you getting listed.
As Debs said, it can take ages to get listed. The site in my profile just got listed in the last month - I submitted it in December 2002.
Cheers

Charming.
On the subject of writer's block, I am just recovering from a serious bout of "poster's block" - forced upon me an ISP who decided cut me off virtually continually for over 4 days. The email this morning was "fun". (Think Monty Python.)
Back to "normal" now, thankfully.
Cheers,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."
