Hi there,

I've been promoting Clickbank products for a while now and a little concerned about something I've read in the forums about people stealing your sales by replacing their own hoplinks with yours. Is this true, and how can this problem be resolved?

I have been using Tiny URL for some of my promotions, but not all, and not really sure that solves the problem?

Thanks,

Liane Bate

Hi Liane,

if someone really wants not to buy through your link, then you can't prevent it.
Cloaking the link is a good thing, that should help a bit, but be cautious how you cloak it, because it may cause your affiliate cookie not being set! So, inform yourself about it, and after cloaking, TEST, if the cookie will be set.

The best thing is, to give an incentive that the people buy from you, for example a bonus, support or rebate.

You can set up an htaccess file to redirect your link. Do a google on htaccess and you will find all you need to know and much more on the subject.

There are also a lot of free and low cost solutions available, some that really work and others that sometimes work. You can google for link cloaker or link masker.

The one below is tried and proven, with a guarantee that your links will work and your cookies set.

Plus, it does not show the affiliate link address in the browser bar, but shows your address even when they are on the CB site.

I wish everyone would replace their own hoplinks with mine.

That's all cob on the corn to me Smile

They can't "steal" your links unless they have access to your servers.

What they can do is buy through their own hoplinks after learning about a product from your site. This happens. And cloaked or not, people how know how to use clickbank will figure out how to buy this way.

Stop worrying.

unless you are promoting something to affiliates or marketing persons who are well informed about clickbank hoplinks, you need not worry about cloaking links or losing commissions this way.

If that is the case, everyone would replace the affiliate link with their own username. But i don't think it happens in all cases. If it is one or two, we should neglect it as we can't stop them from stealing. The only option is simply cloak the links.

I've created a site where you can go to cloak and mask your affiliate urls, this will help prevent such from happening. Not to mention we have a great new affiliate program. See my sig.

Hi Everyone,

First post here. I just wanted to say that it doesn't matter what business you go into, or what business you're a part of - everyone experiences losses. That's why companies create Loss/Prevention Departments. It's just a part of the game. So part one is that realization.

Part 2 is at least 1 method I know of to keep this less than bright part of business to a minimum, and that is by creating loyalty. The only reason people are stealing from you or refusing to buy through you is because they're more concerned about saving money or making money. You can distract that by creating loyalty or camaraderie between you and your visitors and customers.

Offer real value. Show people that you care. Business people who don't care about people and just want more money are no different than those people who are stealing or changing links. Obviously there's a difference in legality, but it's the same mindset: fear of not having enough money. Be in something you love and put your attention there. Any losses you experience will be far outweighed by your sales numbers.

So chin up, do what you love, and start building rapport.
