Point to be covered while performing Search Engine Optimization for any site.
Directory Submission: The URL of the site is to be submitted in different Directories on daily basis.
The major directories are DMOZ, Yahoo, and MSN. We can find the list of Directories in top search engines.
Many Directories needs to be activated after submission of URL, We need to submit an Email-ID in which incoming emails from the Directory webmaster will be activated.
There should be regular checkup in the major Directories for the inclusion of URL; sometimes the major sites delete the URL if they are not followed up.
Search Engine Submission: The URL of the site must be submitted in Search Engines. Search Engines play the major role in increasing the PR of any site. The main Search Engines are Google, AOL, Yahoo and MSN.
Every Search Engine is having an Add-URL page from which we can submit the URL of the site.
In most of the cases of Search Engines we have to activate the URL of the submission sent by the admin or webmaster of site.
The regular lookup of submission of URL should be maintained as in many cases the Search Engines delete the submitted URL; we have to resubmit the URL for indexing. _________________ [This forum member has been banned for plagiarism.]

Search Engine Optimization is an intricate subject and requires "live experience" which you can get only through working on optimization of live websites.
To win a game of CHESS you need to have knowledge about different chess pieces like Queen, Bishops, Rooks etc etc, but this is just the beginning. The real GAME starts when you actually start playing with your opponent ( Google). This is where you master various seo techniques
Similarly in Search Engine Optimization reading articles about SEO is just a beginning. Working on a live seo optimization project can surely give you a level of expertise which will help you understand inner workings of Search Engine Optimization.

- Bad advice. Submit only to directories that get traffic and/or have pagerank indicated on the page your link will be on. Make sure there are no files or tags like nofollow to invalidate your link.

and the point is? There are about 10 to 20 worth submitting to depending on your niche. You'll need to find the Directories that are applicable to your niche.

BAD ADVICE AGAIN? Why do people write this stuff when they don't know what they are talking about? You do NOT need to submit your sites. You need to get incomming links from other sites that are already indexed and let the bots crawl you. You can not FORCE the issue. Submitting gains you nothing and is a total waste of your time. Unless you want to pay for a service like Yahoo which will guarntee weekly crawls, but not ranking. The Forums are full of bad information from people who are just writing crap to lead into their signature links. This post is so bad I felt the need to reply.

And? PR doesn't matter. You don't make money from PR you make money from Traffic you can convert!!!

I just realised that he is from a company that offers SEO and directory submission services.
There are so many errors in that advice, as others have posted, but I'll add that a directory owner will be royally p***** off if someone submitted the same entry daily.
Links from search engines don't count towards PR (which has very little to do with ranking). There would be chaos if Google's spiders crawled MSN and Yahoo and vice versa. Besides, search engines are not crawlable.
I think this thread should be deleted as a service to members... _________________ --
