Post subject: Is reciprocal linking still relevant?
|
|
|
I long for the day when someone who understands a lot about seo can honestly get up and say "reciprocal linking is a waste of time"
I have been building links for about three years now and find it the most time consuming, boring and unfulfilling tasks I have ever had to do.
I would rather clean toilets, at least it's honest...
Can writing articles etc be a better alternative given the SEOs treatment of duplicate content? Do webmasters actually use these articles nowadays?
Forgive the rant but please let me have your views, thanks _________________ Thanks, Wendyann www.insomnia-connection.com |

When you do reciprocal linking, think about are you giving your readers a useful and relevant link or not. If the link adds value to your site, do it. It may have lost a lot of the SEO effect (although there is still some), but if your visitors will benefit, this is what matters _________________ Ultralight Airplane | Risk Investing | Calendar Script | smart personal finance |

I think that in most cases, reciprocal linking IS a huge waste of time. (I also agree -- cleaning toilets is far more fun.) There's also been some feeling among prominent SEOs that it can hurt you, especially with a young site. A bunch of reciprocal links and no "natural" links is not a sign of site quality.
If you don't enjoy drumming them up, rest assured that there are FAR more effective ways of promoting your site. I can't think of a site that took off using mechanistic techniques like reciprocal linking that search engines saw through years ago. Think like a marketer and you will probably succeed much sooner. Insomnia gives you a lot to work with. The people on the web most likely to hand out quality links are naturally concerned with things like insomnia. _________________ - blake

Reciprocal link is still effective! Linking to bad neighbor, your site will penalized by search engines. Bad sites is certain PR 0, so you must avoid these. http://toolbar.google.com is good tool to find out PR of wesbites, before you will link to them. This method can help a site to get top ranking of search engines, it depends on niche market. You need hundreds or even thousands of backlinks from websites that related to your site. It is tedious method, but effective. So you must be persistent. _________________ Strategies and tips of internet marketing for newbies. Oh, and I wanted to add one other thing. I have one site that gets maybe a million hits a month. Out of those hits, almost none come from my reciprocal link partners, even though I currently have about 180 partners in a directory. That tells me a lot about what the search engines think about reciprocal links. _________________ - blake

Yes, link exchange still works now. I got some money from my former site only with link exchange with other sites with good Page rank.
