I finally got approved for adsense. I have not really optimized the pages for adsense but I've had [Deleted.] impressions and only 22 clicks for [Deleted.] click through rate. Is this about average or should I be doing much better on the click rates. All the ads seems to be geared very well toward my target market.
You can see my ads at the following page. Beware it looks pretty bad has I have good search engine ranking and built the site 10 years ago and haven't updated it, I'm working on building another site to redirect traffic. The Coaches Home

I don't use Firefox but I just downloaded a version to check the site. Version 2.0 and 1.5 everything looks decent. Some small problems but no text blocking ads. Do alot of people still use version 1 that you have? The site has alot of html errors but it ranks well in search engines so I've been careful about changing things very much. Only problem i had with firefox was getting the flash plays to work but after installing flash on firefox they work. Does the text block ads on almost every page? Thanks _________________ Roger

Hi Roger,
Larry's right, there's so many text outside it's box, and made it's very hard to read (light green above white background), and your adsense unit is overlapped with main content if you narrowing the page width.
It's better to fix this problem, and be sure that your visitor will happy to see it. _________________ Build 100's adsense website for FREE

I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.3. The site looks strange to me. On index1.html the AdSense ad is a LONG way from the rest of the page - positioned as though you don't want people to see it and click on it.
Also, the AdSense Terms of Service which you agreed to when you joined AdSense say that you're not allowed to discuss click-through rates etc publicly. I know, it's a silly rule but I didn't make it up.
So if this sounds brutal, but because you have a fouled up layout, you'll probably get lots of visitors who take a very quick look at the site and then back out - contributing to your low CTR with AdSense.
Those "small problems" as you call them are very important. They interfere with how your visitors feel about your site and respond to it.
Also, please don't reveal your AdSense click-through rates on this forum. I don't want to be kicked out of AdSense.
On this forum, can get the message across by saying something like "a disgustingly low, single-digit click-through rate". We'll understand what you mean. _________________ Allan Gardyne

Sorry about the CTR discussion Allen, didn't realize the problem. As for using Tripod and the page looking like crap. It was designed about 10 years ago when there wasn't many good design programs other then hand coding. I have become a much better designer since this site was made and hadn't even looked at the site for about 5 years but It gets good search engine traffic to the plays page. Plays Page
Heres a site I'm working on for a friends Auto Care place as an example of the sites I build now just to show that I haven't uddated the page because of fear of losing search engine traffic.
I've decided to try and make some money with the site and I'm in the process of building another site with it's own domain name, etc. I just leave the site alone because of the SE traffic I don't want to lose it before I get the other site ready. I think I will re-due the index1 for the short term just to make it easier to navigate. Most of my traffic arrives to the Plays page though. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to redirect my traffic to the new site without losing my serach engine rankings. _________________ Roger

Fair enough. I have a site that was "designed" in raw HTML in 1996 - and it looks like it.
It IS possible to generate useful revenue from a site that looks like a hobby site. If your audience finds the information really useful, they're often willing to overlook a lot of flaws. _________________ Allan Gardyne

I've designed a quick fix for the page with all the clutter. It's not very pretty but it atleast is more user friendly until I get the site I'm working on finished.
I acidently clicked on one of the Google ads while editing the page, I'm sure this happens sometimes to others It was an honest mistake is there anything to worry about with this? _________________ Roger

If you're the cautious sort, you could contact AdSense and tell them what happened. It would be a shame to be booted out when you're just getting started. _________________ Allan Gardyne

It looks fine to me, but as good as alot of other sites, but it is not breaking the TOS for Adsense as far as I can see.
About raw HTML. I have designed all of my sites via raw html and notepad. It takes some time at first, but I can do it quickly now as I am fluent in HTML. _________________ Affiliate Programs Directory - Over 2,000 Programs
