I have read from some marketers, among them Chris McNeeney (Affiliate Project X), that one should submit an article only to ONE ezine, because google penalizes duplicate content.

But I see obviously some people have success with submitting to many directories.
Which strategy is better?

I have started writing different versions of an article and submitting each one to my favorite directories. Allan Gardyne, again, was the first to really point out the potential long term problems of duplicate content and it made sense to me.

Now I would rather have a fresh article in a few respected article directories than the same article in hundreds of directories that is probably not doing me any good.

My favorite directories would include EzineArticles, IdeaMarketers, AssociatedContent, SearchWarp, and if I have time maybe a couple of others.

to get best exposure, please consider paid article distribution service. They will distribute your article to article directories and also directories. Google will not penalize you.

If not, what's the disadvantage? Why some marketers recommend only to post the same article to one directory? And jschuman above too, seems to have make better experience with it?

But it is unlogical to me. Because the articles if they are good, are likely to be taken from another webmasters and put on their sites. So in the end you can't prevent that they are duplicated. But that's what it's all about, the best thing, or not? The articles to be taken on popular websites with hig PR and getting lots of traffic.
Would google divide between an article in multiple directories, or the same article spreading naturally to multiple websites? I dont think so.

If you want to maximize an article's effectiveness it makes sense to rewrite it in different versions for many different keyword phrases and submit a different version to your favorite artcle directory.

Here are 2 excellent free reports that offer 2 different points of view on duplicate content.

http://www.team-schuman.com/900-pound-report.pdf

http://www.team-schuman.com/ASP-Free-Report-Duplicate-Content.pdf

One is written by Jason Potash of Article Announcer fame. The other by the founders of Article Submitter Pro. I personally lean towards keeping every article as fresh as possible in as many differnet quality directories as possible. This includes keeping a unique version posted on my blog. That is my opinion now, but you have to decide for yourself.

I just read the 2nd report, it contradicts that!

Since the second report is written by the owners of Article Submitter Pro you would expect them to contradict anything regarding duplicate content penalties. ASP allows you to submit one article to over 1200 directories.

I threw both of these reports out because it shows the 2 different view points and how passionately each side defends their view.

You have to decide for yourself your own view.

Oh, ok. Smile

Yeah, I saw it too now.
Very confusing, lol!

Now what's my opinion? I think both are biased. Twisted Evil

I think the first standpoint is better, because when you make many versions out of one article, then it can be bad for your credibility, because people can think that you have so little ideas that you need to make many versions out of one article. But maybe it's not so important as it seems to me.

Do you have better results with your new strategy?

After a while you start getting so many articles out there that you will never be accused of having very little ideas. Plus very few people read all of the different directories. They just have a couple of favorites.

By submitting different versions this means a different title with a different keyword phrase as close to the front as possible, different keywords in the body, at least a different intro, one paragraph in the body, and a different closing.

I think it depends on your motives for placement.

If you are trying to get listed in Google, then you have to post where there is "google love." Meaning a directory that has a high PR like ezinearticles, goarticles and searchwarp.

If you are going for multiple backlinks, then multiple submssions are in order. I personally would not submit the same article.

Any article in any directory has the potential to bring traffic to your website. The benefit of submitting to directories with a higher Page Rank is they generally get more traffic which in turn gives your article a better chance to be read.

Then you factor in an article can be picked up by a search engine giving you the chance to get traffic from it for years and years. I know I have all kinds of articles still bringing me traffic from when I wrote them in 2004. I am on page one of Google for keywords in those articles.

I just found a genius solution to it, by Tellman Knudsen!

It's not either or, it is doing BOTH!
Create 3 versions of an article.
1 for your website.
1 for a high traffic article directory.
1 that can be submitted to lots of directories!

Read yourself: http://ezinearticles.com/?Getting-Traffic-to-Your-Squeeze-Page--Part-3,-Articles-and-What-Happens-Next?&id=531966
