Ive had many different hosting providers. Some of them were not reliable enough, some of them took too long to respond to queries and technical questions, some didnt have the functionality I needed.

I am a wordpress blogger who relies of cPanel and more specifically Fantastico. With Fantastico I can install wordpress within a matter of couple of minutes.

I have just one account with HostGator that hosts 30 of my wordpress blogs. I even run uptime monitors on them and not for 4 month the uptime has been 99.99% which is quite surprising as a lot of servers go down due to maintenance etc.

Check your uptime using uptime monitor and you will see that your hosting isnt all that stable.

75GB of bandwidth is also great, it allows me to do video streaming, podcasts etc. I still end up not using even 10% of it.

So if you ask me for the hosting provider I would go for HostGator.

It took me a long time to find this provider, out of all reviews Ive read this turned out to be the most reliable, cheap and highly decorated Smile

Ditto on that. HostGator is the best in my book, too.

Thats why you plug them with an affliate link Smile

Fantastico is part of Cpanel on a zillion hosts. I have used it to install wordpress on another host and turns out it works just fine.

In order to host 30 blogs you would need a reseller account of course... the standard "swamp" account is not the way to go for that.

Nothing agains Host Gator - I plug them. They are doing a great job of marketing. But if you need more featuers there are other hosts. In fact there are even cheaper hosts. Lunar pages lets you stack 10 "addons" on a single domain.

Both host Gator and Lunarpages stack all those sites on a single IP. If you need individual IP addys there are again cheaper hosts.

So I would agree that Host Gator offers good value for the money, but so do many other. Make sure you accurately determine your needs before you choose a host. It can be a real pain to move a bulk of site. The best strategy for multiple sites is to use multiple hosts.

Disasters happen and you could loose all your sites at once. This happened with sites in Florida due to hurricanes, in New Orleans, and in Canada and the North east due to snow.

There is nothing like loggin on one day and finding all your sites down.

I try to choose hosts in different parts of the country for this very reason.

Which is also why you should use different registrars.

Ive got normal "Baby" plan at HostGator and currently have around 24 blogs on it.

shared hosting would allow me to become a reseller and set up my own prices using hostgator services. I havent got that far, but i heard its also good.

Now I am confused. Hostgator Baby plan has unlimited Domains. Why should one not be able to set up 30 blogs?

And why should one want different IPs?

not sure why quest recons you cant set up more then 30 blogs. you can. unlimited addon domains.

different IP addresses. well there is a theory that its best to have different sites on different IP addresses. But i dont particularly agree with that theory.

According to folks at google, a domain is a domain to them. I don't know that it's ture, but I use add-ons and sub-domains all the time and am totally satisfied.

Addon domains are fine. I have most of my sites that are addons ranking in google for their search terms.

If you know good, reliable and fairly cheap hosting providers I would really like to find out about them.

Its just in my research I havent found anything more reliable and cheaper than Hostgator

A host which assigns different IP addys allows you to do things that you couldn't otherwise do on a shared IP.

For example: Lets say you do something stupid and your site is being blocked by IP. Simple, delete it and set up a new site - new ip, no block. However some places do block IP Blocks. That's a lot of blocks Smile

Stacking all your sites on a single IP address which is shared puts you at the mercy of the IP Block. What if you are sharing a block of IP's and another webmaster without your high moral ethical standard manages to do something that sets off an IP block. You get to share in the block right along with them.

Google's Matt Cutts has stated not to worry about a "few" sites on the same IP. But has chosen not to specify a cut off point.

That's reason enough to be more diverse in your IP strategy. I run more sites than I care to admit to, so for me it's a big issue.

For a person running just a few sites perhaps not.

The best strategy is to have different hosts in different parts of the country. Not just for IP's but for disasters. Snowstorm in the North East knock down the telephone networks? Hurricane in Florida or New Orleans? These things happen.

Some people say that different ip's make it less noticeable when you want to interlink different sites with each other.
