Hello ,
I am just putting this site up as suggested by Allen for another trial experiment . ( This was written in about 10 minutes and I will try to do some more editing on the keywords tomorrow )
This site has approximatley 1600 + links coming into it according to market leap popularity checker thingofamajig. I'm not counting on hits from the link in's but we will see how it goes.
I also wanted to see if the PR remained in tact after years of being obsolete.
I used the format of cheap -computers and changed it around if this is unacceptable please let me know !
I have included a tracker which , I will leave on the home page in the bottom corner.
The sight is http://www.gamerforge.net
I used Tiger Direct as the Affiliate also , since it was convient to sign up and is approved automatically .
See ya Laters
Jeff
P.S Please DO NOT buy from my site , you will hurt my experiment unless you really feel the need to ! LoL
PSS I really must quit Drinking , but Jack won't go home |

Now how did you manage to have all of those incoming links? Did you purchase an expired domain? _________________ Robert

Carpunky,
just had a look at your experiment. Looks nice. Is it just this one page?
As I mentioned in the other post yesterday, I recommend that you implement a redirect, sothat the existing links that where reported in market leap (which probably don't always point to the homepage) don't end in a 404 error page (page not found). _________________ Explore The Most Up to Date Site About How to Succeed with Adwords! |

Very nice looking... easy to read too...
And Onlineleben is right... you need to trap that 404 traffic, or it won't help you any. I am working on something similar on my site right now...
I have a couple of old domains I am recyling... and they have a decent amount of links coming in... so I plan on doing something similar... _________________ Eric D. Burdo

Yeah, Got lucky and found one that expired that nobody had picked up, the same day I picked up another one manadohotels.net with about twice as many links .

Good luck!
I wonder if you're on quite the right track. How much research have you done on those 1600 links? Have you had a look at the sites that are linking to yours? Or at least a selection of them?
What are the people who are arriving at your site from those links going to expect to find? What's in their minds? Are they going to be pleased or annoyed when they arrive at your site? If they're annoyed, don't expect them to buy anything.
I'm just guessing, but with a name like "gamerforge" won't they expecting to find info on computer games?
Also, what's the anchor text - the actual words in those links? For example, if the words most commonly used by people linking to you are "computer games" then you'd have a brilliant head start if you decided to optimize the page for "computer games". If it's "gamer tips" then you'd want to optimize for "gamer tips", if that looks like a profitable phrase.
If you snapped up an expired domain name, what did the old site used to look like? That would give you a good clue to the content you could provide. It's slipped my mind, but there's a site that lets you look at Internet archives. Someone else will be able to tell you its name.
Over all, you want to try to give your visitors exactly what they're hoping to find.
One disadvantage that Rupert has discovered with TigerDirect is that because it sells goods at fire-sale prices, it often sells out and he finds some product links become dead links. So he has to update the site more often than we'd like. I must add that warning to his case study.
Hope that helps.

That wonderful "history" tool for sites is the WayBack machine. If you go to http://www.alexa.com and plug in the gamerforge site for its stats, the WayBack machine will appear on the lower left side. It is a GREAT resource. _________________ - blake

Hi Carpunky,
Can you tell me where you picked up this expired domain? It is something I have been thinking about but wasn't sure where to go.
Also, what is the code for setting up that redirect? I need to set something similiar up on my site.

Steve,
I joined this program http://www.domainsbot.com/
It's pretty good for delivering expired domains that are already listed in yahoo and Dmoz Note : I don't beleive in promoting affiliate links in help forums so its a clean link .
This site will explain how to re-derict 404 and 500 errors
http://www.sheamus.f9.co.uk/user/redirect.html
Allan ,
I am aware of this but I just wanted to put something up for that domain.
I am working on another site that hopefully , I can re-derict the PR to that site. I will probally sell off GamerForge . It was acually a site about half-life a 1st person view shooter game. It had something to do with D/L sound files for the game. Did I mention the benefit google ads if people are looking for something else, I noticed this boosted my revenues for the day.
Your input is always appreciated Allan and I wish you God's speed on your recovery ! You are very much admired by me and others on the board .
I am so thankful for this site , like I had stated before , I have indulged in web sites for the last 6 years or more but always for fun and really never thought about making money until the content site was introduced to me by reading this forum and the way it should be done.
Thanks
Jeff |

Thanks for the kind words, Jeff. If you're having fun, you might as well make money while you're doing so, I reckon.

Allan ,
I decided to change the format a little like you had suggested. I also went with a complete css style. ( Well almost )
Its amazing , I just submitted it to google yesterday and I am already getting hits from google and yahoo.

Personally, I'm almost waiting with bated breath to see how this experiment turns out. It seems like the closest thing I've seen to a 'controlled experiment.'
Please keep us updated. _________________ - blake

Carpunky, you had the PR4 already ... just didn't have a page to show it on. I saw it when I visited the url ... before you uploaded.
