Post subject: Suggestions to quick-start traffic on new site?
|
|
|
I'm in the home stretch of putting up a new site; 80% of the first draft content is there, some but by no means all the affiliate links in place, newsletter still to be set up...
Anyway, what are some ways to start some initial traffic on the site?
I'd like to get some going during that search engine indexing lag.
BTW, one of the things I'm particularly proud of is that the layout is
all done in CSS, not a table anywhere in sight....
If you'd like to take a peek, it's at

Thanks in advance,

I spent one night ..literally about 8 hours just scouring google for potential link partners ,of course I had a case of bud-light to make it less boring.
The very next day , I had replies in my mailbox that my link had been added. I average 20 hits per day from one of those sites. I got back about 8 replies out of 30 or so.
It took awhile because after I found the site that I wanted to change links with , I would then add there link to my site before sending the e-mail to them. ( by then I was pretty well obliviated from the beer , so it took awhile to create the links )
Plus you will be getting targeted visits instead of junk !

DEFINETLY ask other people to exchange links. For my new site I had 10 articles placed in a high traffic directory and other site on their homepage.
My site is about a month old and I'm getting 70-100 visits a day.
Plus the links will help my SE rank when I get fully indexed by Google.
Hope that helps! _________________ Robert

Hi, Scott,
Contribute frequently to forums related to your site's niche, and have your URL in your signature. You can occasionally refer forum members to a specific article on your site with the article's URL - but give lots of "free" assistance too. Way before any of my pages were spidered in the SE's, I built a good stream of daily traffic by participating actively in several forums in my industry.
This works best if you are somewhat of an expert in your niche, and you can answer forum questions asked by people who don't have your level of knowledge on your subject. Be creative in finding forums where members might need your knowledge; maybe a wide range of industries have a need for the info you provide! Also, when forum members ask questions, you get great article ideas for topics that are in demand.
There's also a thread somewhere here about submitting your articles to article databases, where they can be picked up and published by all kinds of online newsletters. You'll have your website URL in your resource box at the end of each of your articles, so readers can come visit your site.
Good luck! |

There are many ways to get some good traffic to your site!
The main ones are PPC Search Engines as many of the small ones give you FREE advertising cash just to get you started.
You can also exchange links with other sites which will get you into Google quicker and also increase your sites PR.
I also found that adding your sites url within your signature a good idea or even getting your site reviewed within the Forums. This is because I launched a new site on the 25th January 2004 and by the 30th January 2004 it went into the Google Search Engine.
I was expecting to wait at least a month before my new site got into Google, not just under 5 days. _________________ Affiliate Programs Directory - Over 2,000 Programs

Post subject: "hits" on your site
|
|
|
Hi everyone!
I'm also researching starting my own site, I have an idea of content, and a possible newsletter but I have a question regarding hits.
When you speak of getting 70-100 hits per day, does that increase your income level? Do you also get paid by the number of hits to your site?
Thanks in advance to this maybe stupid question...goes to show how green I am!! lol

Hits are not visitors ... hits are the items downloaded to view a page ... your page html is one hit, each graphic is one hit, a script call is a hit, etc.
You could have dozens, if not hundreds of hits for one person viewing one page.
To get paid for someone just viewing your page, and a banner, ad, etc. located there, is done by impressions. Rates vary widely but are usually figured in groups of 1,000 impressions. Some rates I've seen tossed about on other forums range from $1 to $20 per 1,000 impressions. High traffic sites can usually garner more per 1,000 impressions than sites with low traffic. Having targeted content/traffic can also increase the rate.
Some of the more popular ways to earn affiliate income is by click, lead or sale. Each requires action on the part of the viewer in order for you to earn a commission.
Click = must click the ad ... i.e. Google Adsense
Lead = viewer must take some qualified action, fill out a form, subscribe to a newsletter, sign up for a quote, etc. There are sometimes restrictions as to what is a qualified lead. Partially completed forms, bad email addresses, lack of confirmation to a subscription, can all make a potential qualified lead become unqualified.
Sale = viewer must make a purchase on the merchant site through your link (or with your affiliate coded cookie intact) in order for you to earn a commission.
There may be others, but this is what springs to mind right now

Hi Scott,
Just in my own opinion, several most effective ways to bring traffic is:
1.Involve yourself in hot forums, and provide your value and help others with your own knowledge, then add a signature to advertise your site;
2.Write articles and submit to many reprint article directories, don't forget to add your resource box;
3.Compile a free ebook with your own articles or others' , and build a download page for it, add some advertising info on the page, then submit your free ebook to many ebook directories _________________ Kane Deng

For Item 2, submitting articles ... be sure they are on your site and indexed first, before you submit them for others to publish.
I did this with an article (before it was indexed) and I am now showing as the "duplicate content" page for that article
For Item 3 above, don't use others content without permission or you could find yourself under attack, and in legal hot water, for copyright violation.

As an update regarding:
| Quote: | | 2.Write articles and submit to many reprint article directories, don't forget to add your resource box; |
I submitted a couple articles to about.com about 10 days ago without much hope of them being picked up ... but ... one was! And, my traffic has jumped with a lot of referrals coming from them too.
Take a peek http://credit.about.com if you like, about 1/2 way down the page first listing after the "Sponsored Links."
