Ive heard from a number of SEO gurus that the period for which a domain name has been registered plays a vital role in it ranking in the SERPs.

Well, I just registered a new domain yesterday about Henna (see my signature) and applied all the SEO techniques that I apply to all my other blogs (see some in my signature). Right now I am waiting to see if the spiders and crawlers appear on my site.

What do you think about domain registration period?

Ive heard that Google looks at how long it has been registered for and when it expires. The logic behind that is that spam sites only register a domain name for a short time and big companies (good content) register for 10 years ahead.

Any ideas, theories?

It is true, they regard it as a "factor in predicting the legitimacy of a domain", it is stated in a patent that google has.

So it might affect your ranking. But I think it's only a small little factor.

I don't want to register now for 10 years, because I don't have so much spare money.

Can one register for one year and later renew for 10 Years?

Can I do it with Host Gator?

If one has auto renewal, is it sure that no one can take away your domain name?

Some time ago, I registered AssociatePrograms.com for 10 years. I don't know if the term of the registration makes any difference, but it MIGHT, so to me it makes sense to pay in advance money that I'm going to have to pay anyway.

Yeah, it seems logical. as serious sites are there to stay with their online presence.
