Hey, did you guys see the lead article in the newsletter Allan published today?

Great stuff, less is more, I love it. Way to go Allan.

And, just to kick up some conversation dust, we could propose it's perhaps a brave article as well.

Suppose producing great original content, and getting links to it, really is all that is needed to succeed as an affiliate?

What does one sell an affiliate webmaster who is on this path? Pencils?

And if you'll pardon my pontificating punditry, we could take it a step farther maybe.

What is really great content? What are readers REALLY looking for when they spend hours on the Net?

If they find what they're really looking for, what will we sell them then?

One perspective could be that this entire consumer economy we serve is built upon keeping things complicated, and never fully meeting the buyers needs.

Carefully tending a garden of perpetual need...

Aw shucks! Thank you.

I must admit, that thought did occur to me. If all my readers and visitors merely writes articles and gets links for the next months, I'll go out of business. Smile

So let's keep this back-to-basics advice our little secret, OK?

Fortunately, I own a bunch of non-Internet marketing sites which will tide me over.

Judging by YouTube, lots of people are merely seeking entertainment, but more often solutions to their problems. The niche website I was describing in that article solves problems.

As I'm sure you know, that's the big (and often annoying) affiliate trick. You solve lots of problems, but you also recommend products which will solve even more problems. You never quite give everything away.

Fortunately for affiliates, I have great faith that you're not going to change the world, Phil, or not in my lifetime, and lots of people will keep on wanting to buy all sorts of irrelevant stuff they don't really need. For example, I know a young woman who thinks an expensive diamond ring is more important than house payments.

Anyway, we don't have to sell them anything. All we have to do is use AdSense ads which entice them to click. Achieving a sale is someone else's problem. I love it when the tough stuff is someone else's problem.

Getting back to the "write articles, get links" mantra. That's just affiliate marketing 101. Human nature being what it is, most of us will strive to move beyond 101.

Well, ok then, my lips are sealed.

Nah, on 2nd thought, let's repackage back to basics, and create a new product out it.

Ha, funny, and true! I share your faith. Changing is out of the question, but understanding perhaps isn't. In any case, the process is fun for itself. I need a Blackberry to organize all my irrelevant understandings! Where's a good sale?? Smile

Just for fun, I'll disagree.

The simple direct mind focusing clarity of your aricle arises from years of experience. "Less is more" is an advanced concept for most of us. Again, well done.

I made a post on this myself over in the getting started forum. Allan really boiled it down and it is what I have concentrated over the past 4 years when I was part time.

Except now it is probably easier to write an article and add it to your website if you have a blog. All you have to do is paste it in and then feed the post into your home page for fresh content everyday.

I guess I get most of my backlinks by submitting my articles all over the place and by pinging them when I post. That again is very easy to do using Article Marketer and something like Ping-O-Matic.
