PostPosted: Tue Jan 09, 2007 7:46 am    Post subject: 5 Reasons Why Blogs Fail Reply with quote

Here is a proven fact: 95% of all blogs fail. This figure even includes those blogs which people set up as hobbies. Most of these blogs never develop a following, other than a few friends and family who may visit it in order to try and help out.

So why do so many blogs fail? Blogs fail for many reasons, but the following are some of the most common reasons:

Reason Why Blogs Fail #1: The Topics Aren?t Interesting

Most people aren?t interested in reading a blog which discusses the development of butterfly gardens. Most people want to read about current events in pop culture and politics. But not only do they want interesting topics, they also want to read an opinion on those topics that is fresh. They want a different opinion that does not match up with the same repeated mumbo jumbo the mainstream press offers.

Reason Why Blogs Fail #2: The Information is Offensive

The majority of people who read blogs possess an adequate amount of intelligence. What I mean by this is that they generally are not ignorant. Maintaining a blog that promotes hate or political views in opposition to democracy is not the best way to build a readership.

Reason Why Blogs Fail #3: The Writing is Poor

The art of writing is truly becoming extinct today. So much emphasis is put on technology and the spell checker that people don?t feel as if they need to be able to compose clean and concise sentences. However, this belief is wrong. If you can?t write, it will show. It will also deter people from ever visiting your blog again.

Reason Why Blogs Fail #4: There are no Links

Part of developing a readership is earning trust. One of the best ways to do this is to provide information in your blog that is factual and not fabricated. To avoid the potential of having people question the information within your blog, you should link to other credible Web Sites where the information can be verified. Newspapers are a great choice for doing this; especially the nationally recognized ones, such as the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times.

Reason Why Blogs Fail #5: People Give Up

It?s very easy for people to get discouraged and give up on their blog after only a few weeks. Most become discouraged when they realize that a strong readership is not developing as they had thought. However, blogs take time to develop and gain popularity. You should make sure and post new articles everyday in order to gain consistent readership. You also must understand that it takes time to develop a popular blog. It won?t happen in a week, or even two weeks. It may take as long as a year, so make sure and give your blog enough time to grow before giving up on it.

Developing a strong readership for your blog won?t be easy; however, if you dedicate yourself to it on a daily basis, and avoid the pitfalls mentioned above, your chances of success will be positive. Even if you never make money with your blog, you may find that if you can develop a strong readership, your blog may lead to other opportunities for you in life. That alone makes it worth not giving up on it.

Blogs fail? while blogs may be worthless in their content (depending on the author) they are easy to optimize for Google and MSN and are a good way to earn online.

Blog is just like any other website. Content can be good/reliable or the opposite.

Blogs are easier to set up then sites and definitely easier to optimize.

Not sure why you decided to pick on blogs, may as well comment on all of internet

Good post Condrut. I guess giving up would tie in with lack of fresh content. A blog is a long term committment. You have to consistently keep posting.

Maybe once a day at first and then once a week later is enough. If you like your blog posting is almost second nature and can even be theraputic as well as financially rewarding.

Who care what *most people* want to read? Some of the most successful blogs are directed to a highly specialized niche market.

Personally I have very little interest in professional photography, but when I was shopping out cameras I came across some very entertaining and well written blogs on just that subject that became daily reads for me.

To get read and then get repeat visitors blogs have to have a little excitement. Pictures seem to help and are easy to do.

Audio and Video are the next step for me. When I look at the blogs I am competing against in my niche the really good ones have some videos in their posts, and have a certain flair to their appearance.

A blog of nothing but words is boring. Even if the articles are good people may leave before they read them.

The other thing is Web 2.0 which is basically making your blog more interactive. Comments, social bookmarking, even letting visitors add fresh content, are all ways to get them coming back.

Having a good blog is a lot of work today, but if you do not do it you are wasting your time if you want traffic and repeat traffic.

What is meant by failing? Failing against the targets or?

If the target is to get x number of targeted visitors per day, then the blog fails if it doesn`t reach the number, but..

Then a blog-owner has tens of splended ways in use in order to increase the traffic.

I see a blog as a one weapon in the communication mix, which must have it`s own place there.

Good artice,
these opinons hit the mark, and very useful.
and I think there still is a reason:
the blogger didn't have a good method to promote his blog.
They have a good contend ,but doesn't know how to attract user.

I think that the main problem is that as a new blogger you don't see fast results for 'all your hard' work.

It's like when you're on a diet and don't lose a pound for weeks! ...in a word: disappointing.

That's why bloggers quit after the first 3 posts.

Another problem is that bloggers don't really understand what a blog is.

If you're poor at writing good articles you know it by now, so there's no point to waste your time by starting a blog Smile

Just my 2 cents...

Good article. I think they mean blogs fail when someone gives up and stops writing in thier blog. It could be from lack of traffic or not making money. Most of the time people want instant results and move on before they really make blog work.

Great Post! I especially liked what you said in Reason #4: There are no Links.

I never considered linking to Newspapers for credibility... but now I will.

A blog needs to be updated on a regular basis!

I have my own blog because I like to ad new content or write an article about what I know or feel about. Or simply to share experience!

I see it more as a "personal card" and I also use it as an introduction of myself when it comes to create new contacts and let people know who I am.

It's a long term process for sure!
