Very Happy We uncovered a problem with Google's AdSense Advanced Option Filtering System. Essentially we found that certain URL's were not being blocked and we had filtered them out weeks ago.

We reported the problem(s) on three different occasions and in all cases, Google claimed to fix them.

Just yesterday (8/6) they found the glitch and repaired it.

Here is how the filters are supposed to work according to Google:

---------------------

Google: "Thank you for sending us the URLs. I have reviewed your site, and I believe I know what the problem is with filtering. Our filter uses the destination URL of the AdWords ad to exclude ads from your site. This URL may be different than the final page you end up on when you click on an ad. For this reason we do not advise that you click on ads in order to determine what site to filter.

The best way to evaluate the destination URL of an ad is by right clicking (or holding down control and clicking if you use a Macintosh) on the link to the ad and selecting 'properties.' The URL you see will look something like this: http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/url?q=http://www.sitetobefiltered.com&sa=

In this case, the URL that you would want to filter out would be 'www.sitetobefiltered.com.' Please note that entering 'www.sitetobefiltered.com' would not filter out ads from 'sitetobefiltered.com' and vice versa.

If you take a look at an ad careful because some of the destination URL's do not have a 'www' in front of the domain name. What you need to do to filter this site is to put http://siteexample.com into the filter list, and not simply http://www.siteexample.com. The same applies to any other sites that do not have the 'www' in their destination URLs.

I hope this solves your problem. Please email us if the problem persists..."

---------------------

So we followed their advice and low and behold it DID NOT WORK. We found that their software did have a big glitch. It could not handle https direction URL's and would not respond to their instructions concerning the direction URL's without a "www".

However, on 8/6 .. the Advanced Options were fixed to comply with Google's expected results as stated below

---------------------

Google: .."Hello Ed,

Thank you for bringing these issues with our site filter list to our attention.

Both of these issues should now be resolved. Please try adding your URLs to your filter list again.

Note also that the 'https' portion of the URLs you enter will be automatically removed from the URL in the filter list. This will not
affect the filtering of that page, directory, or site, except that ads for the same URL with 'http' instead of 'https' will be filtered as well."

---------------------

So the result is that you have to be very careful with the filtering and now it will work.

Happy Adsensing...

Ed
