Hi All - I apologize if this has been covered elsewhere here, but my search didn't find it...
Anyway, I'm a full-time secretary who (surprise) detests her job and dreams of self-employment. I have several weekly church commitments, do regular paperwork for my husband's business, and have almost sole responsibility for managing our home.
Is it even possible to build a successful online business in the little time I have left? How does someone become self-employed without the time to build a business?
If I work smart and hard for 1-2 hours a day, what is a reasonable time expectation for making $2000/mo? I'm expecting to build several content-rich sites and use AdSense and affiliates. I love to write and I love research. Somewhat web-savvy. And I've read Allan's awesome tutorial (thanks, BTW, super stuff!!).
I know this is a broad question, and any comments are appreciated. Thank you! _________________ Nothing brings "good luck" like genuine hard work.

Since you don't mention anything about having a budget, I'd recommend on making outsourcing your best friends.
1-2 hours a day isn't a lot at all, but if you can take that time and manage 5 people, outsourcing your projects, you be adding "time" on your side, since they'd be working for you.
When I was working full-time, I was only getting 5-6 hours of sleep, spending the rest of my time on the computer until 2am in the morning. It was tough for that little while, but I'd do it again if I had to get where I want to be today.
$2000 a month isn't that hard to do. That's only $66 a day. If you can find out how to make $66 a day, you're set. I know people that triple that with just promoting ClickBank.com products via Google Adwords...and thats profit, not before advertising costs.
Just focus and you'll get there!

Unfortunately, there are no hard and fast rules. If you can find 10 hours a week, are really determined, and focus hard on what you're doing, you should be able to make, say, $300 a month after six months, $1,000 a month after 1 year and $2,000 a month after 2 years. There are no guarantees. It's up to you.
However, you sound intelligent and you have a good writing style. Those two things are enormously important in this business. They give you a flying start.
Your success or otherwise will depend on all sorts of factors, especially the niche or niches you choose. It would help a lot if you choose a niche which has really eager buyers, and if you're fortunate enough to find a niche which isn't too intensely competitive. Some hobby niches, for example, have people who are really keen buyers.
It took me nearly two years before I quit my day job. But that was back in the days when there were almost no instruction manuals. You're much more fortunate now. _________________ Allan Gardyne

Voasi and Allan, thanks for your thoughtful replies.
I guess, really, it doesn't matter how much time it takes to become boss-free, does it? Even if it takes five years (argh!), I'd definitely still be a secretary if I DIDN'T try, right?
And seriously, I think the trick is to do something you love. I'd do this stuff for free. How fun. ;-] _________________ Nothing brings "good luck" like genuine hard work.

Any legitimate business will cost you time, but you will get what you put into it. You need to work smart. I would definitely recommend that you look into Site Build It. With everything included, you will be working smart, without a doubt. Once you find that passion and the niche that has a high-demand and low supply that you want to work in, the only thing that can hold you back is yourself.
