I have mentioned that recently more and more webmasters use a new technique trying to generate more CPR on their webistes - they put an image or number of images next to the adsense unit and this way it seems like the image is part of the ad.

My question is does Google allow this, because I cannot find anywhere that it prohibits it.

CPR? Who's heart needs resuscitation? I think you mean CTR. Smile

Placing pictures next to AdSense ads is accepted by AdSense, and is a very good idea.

However, if you use a graphic which contains an arrow or finger pointing to the ads, that's going too far, that's drawing unnecessary attention to the ads, and is not acceptable. If you do that, you risk losing your AdSense account and might need CPR.

Allan, thank you for your reply!
CPR Smile yeah, funny mistyping, isn't it..

Well I guess that's great for improving the CTR of my Sofia Hotels site. I'm just curious - is there any minimum distance required between images and ads, or they can be adjacent?

Thanks!

I've never read of any minimum distance between ads and text. Just do what looks good.

You have good pics of hotels in your site.
In my opinion you should use them just above the adsense ads and the format should be 728*90.
If you want live example of this you can go to the site below :

Arpitgosai, thank you for the example.

Let me show you what I mean:

Could Google has anything against this type of arranging the images?

Google allow this kind of ads as long as you use a visible frame to separate the ads from the images, so as not to deceive your visitors into thinking that the images are part of the ad. Otherwise Google WILL ban your account.

Well I suppose in the example above there's a kind of visible frame, but it's just a white space. Is that OK?

not to sound harsh, but that's not okay. It has to be a VISIBLE frame, as in terms of a frame where an ordinary person can see the border of the frame. In other words, the frame must have a VISIBLE border that can been seen by a human being. Not a border that blends in with the background. Not an invisible border. Not a separator. A VISIBLE border that separates the image from the ads so as to NOT deceive people into thinking that the images are part of the ad. Sorry if I sounded harsh.

Again, I believe you're misinformed of Google's policies regarding Adsense.

Numerous people use this technique in full compliance with Google's rules.

I don't know. I could be wrong and I could be right. I got nothing more to say as far as I am concerned on this topic.

I've heard of several different Google employees stating different things. Some say the background needs to be differnt, others say at least a divider line in-between pictures and ads, and again, others have said it's fine, as long as the pictures aren't too close to the advertisement.

It's funny, they don't really "lay it all down" for you, in black and white, because hey...they're making money with your clicks too. As long as it's not fraud, it's all good to them...at least it seems that way.

Regardless, they don't really mind if there are images next to the ads. I have it on a few sites and I've never been told anything.

Yep basically it needs to be clear that the image is not part of the ad with some sort of border.

We've had to get clarification about images and AdSense, as we've recently created a software product in this area.

You do need a separator between images and your AdSense ads. You must not mislead the viewer into believing the images are part of the advertisers ad.
