Hmm... my take:
1) If it works don't fix it.
2) About ClickBank:
a) I agree with you. They are not "money friendly" to people outside the U.S. Also, their fees are a bit high for what they offer.
b) The only advantage that they have to offer is that they have an active "affiliate" base. Almost every affiliate marketing info-product that comes out pushes beginners to go there to look for products so you may find affiliates just by having your product there.
c) Your secure download point is very valid but for the wrong reasons... i.e. What's stopping someone from emailing their friends the actual file?
On the plus side you are preventing Search Engines from finding your download page and archiving it for all to see and download.
Now, let me get onto another point that you might be missing:
Take as many preventative measures as possible but don't dwell too much on this. If you focus all your time and energy on preventing theft you won't have any left for promoting and pushing your product.
Sadly, theft is always going to be there. Unfortunately the more measures you take to prevent it, the more you upset and inconvenience your paying customers. e.g. Password protecting a pdf file.
The last thing you want is an aggravated customer...
Just my 2c for you to consider.
Regards,
Chris |

Thank you very much for your replies. They are helping a lot.
2a) I have an account in the states, and I could deposit my checks there. Also, I can open a dollar account here, which I think reduces the check cashing fee. In the worst case, they clickbank would mail my checks to me, which I would sign for deposit only and send back to the U.S. I did, however, have a $1,000 check stolen from me when I followed that process. It took over a year to get the money. It was almost impossible to press charges, because I had no idea "where" the check was stolen.
...so some issues, but resolvable
2b) That's the thing I've been attracted to, but payloadz also has an "affiliate network." And no one seems to be picking up on my product anyway. Another thing is, why do I need "their" affiliate network, if I can build my own? I haven't even started building my own affiliate network, so how can I evaluate the results I would get by doing so?
If their affiliate network really works, and I can project that it will work for me, then giving clickbank a shot sounds reasonable. Otherwise, it doesn't seem worth the $49 set-up fee.
2c) You are right about that. They can just email the file. Good point.
Regarding time and energy devoted to preventing theft.
1) I did password protect the file with a password that promotes my marketing. I like that idea.
2) I did look through all kinds of secure download products, which was worth it, because the "open" question of whether such technology works and is worth it got closed with a fairly resounding "it ain't worth it and causes a lot of frustration."
3) I decided not to go with clickbank.
If folks give the clickbank affiliate network a big thumbs up, then I may very well reconsider.
Best,
