In many ways getting traffic to your blog is the same as getting traffic to your website... SEO, Directories, Link buying, etc., but currently blogs have a few advantages.
The main advantage a blog has is that search engines spider them constantly.
The trick is to figure out how to get your blog spidered.
These are a few things that work...
- While the free blogging sites are great, and easy to use, you can get your blog deleted at any time if you do something they dont like. You should host your own blog (wordpress, or typepad come to mind) I use wordpress, its Free and very customizable.
You now own your content.
- Host your blog on the same domain as your website. This can generate more traffic to your main site. It will also increase your alexia rank due to the extra traffic from your blog.
- Dump the blogroll on wordpress, or fill it with relevant links to similar sites. (this will help with SEO), or you can fill it with links to your website.
- For wordpress, install the Widgets plug-in, which is used to fully customize your sidebar panel. Then use one of its text boxes?s to add your navigation links of your main website or affiliate links. Position this text box, so that it is first on your side panel, and then use another text box to add this.AdSense widget. Another great widget to add is the sociable icons widget, so your visitors can bookmark your blog for the world to see.
The great thing about the sidepanel widget, is that you can do a lot of customization, without haveing to edit the template files. For the most part, all you have to do is past code in a text box and his update.
- Of course get listed in the blog directories, but don?t forget about the RSS Directories.
- Learn to Tag and Ping. Technorati and Del.icio.us tags are two of the big ones to tag, but there are many smaller social sites that you should be tagging as well.
- Also, don?t use tags that no one will search for. Before you tag, search these sights for the most relevant tags in your niche and use those. You should be able to come up with several.
- Automate your postings. Create several days of blog post, and then have software post them one at a time on your schedule.
- And as always, write compelling headlines, and follow up with great content. This might sound obvious, but it can be hard to do for many of us. Get a book or two and writing compelling copy, then practice it daily.
