I was specially interested to see the recommendation that you put your blog on your site, not on a different domain.

Makes good sense to me, to help build your brand, but lots of people don't do it.

Hi,

These are some great ideas about getting more traffic to your blog.

I would only like to add something which I learned when I made my first blog.

It is a simple idea, a part of initial lessons on blogs - add RSS feed of your blog to My Yahoo! Your blog will appear on Yahoo very fast.

Too many people populate their sites and blogs with ads before they have any traffic or real visitors. And excellent list for sure.

For those of you who have not read - Myspace recently inked a deal with Google in the amount of $900 million over the next 3 years (They have to meet quotas). The site sold for $580 million. I don't believe they (Founders) worried too much about the money until the traffic was built. Maybe they were just lucky or maybe they were truly visionary. But the money poured in.

Excellent articles.. I especially liked the advise to not allow comments on a blog until your page views get above 750 page views per day. I never thought about that until now, but it makes since..

Yep got to treat comments similar to forum sections you don't want lots of no posts or no comments.

There was one tip about...

"Tagging content can also be valuable to help give you a "bump" towards getting traffic from big sites like Reddit, Digg & StumbleUpon "

I submitted one of my article on How to Write Well to Reddit and for that day I got about 400+ unique visitors to the page.

However there were some disadvantages:
1. It did not lead to a substantial improvement in earnings. I think most people there were tech-savvy.
2. Google Adsense Team sent me a warning for generating invalid impressions to my site.
3. The bump in traffic only last for a couple of days unless you keep getting bumped up by other readers, where you stay at #1 spot.

Conclusion
Traffic is good, whether it's appropriate.. you judge.

In the article it states that hosting your blog separate from your site is a mistake. I've found that not to be true. I have both my site and blog ranked high in msn for the same keyword on the first page, giving me more of a spread. Also, my blog gets high ranking in yahoo while my site does not as of yet. If I started hosting my blog on my site i'd lose all those ranking.

I guess it's not true under all circumstances.
