Post subject: Labelling the click-through?
|
|
|
When presenting the all important affiliate click-through link, is it better to describe the link as:
Visit *** Website
or simply
Click here for more details (or words to that effect)
It occured to me that visitors by not like being overtly invited to click on a website link, and are much more likely to click the link if it says "more details" or "further information".
Is this observation justified, or can we simply label the link as "Click here to visit..." etc.?
It suppose that it is all a matter of customer and website visitor psychology at the final analysis.
Thanks. |

I think it depends on how net-savvy your visitors are, in general...
If thet are experienced surfers, they may well click on anything that looks like a conventional link (blue and underlined). The less experienced they are (or the less orthodox-looking the links), the more you may need to point out that the link is something to be clicked.
Secondly, consider the anchor text of the link if you control the destination site. You don't want Google thinking a page is about "click here" anymore than you want your main page to be thought to be about "home".
Just a thought,

Also depend much on the topic of your site.
For one of my sites I get decent CTR by using a link text like "buy from abc now", whereas I don't get the same results (with similar targeted traffic from an other site I operate. the second site is more webmaster focused, so I think they envey me the commission I could get and just go to the merchant directly (maybe even with their own afiliate code).
In general, it makes more sense to have a link with text linke "details about abc product". It looks more natural. _________________ Explore The Most Up to Date Site About How to Succeed with Adwords! |
