Post subject: Weird link exchange method...
|
|
|
On all my site, I have a link exchange page. I recommend webmasters to first place a link to my site, then send the request.
It gives great results, and lately, I've got so many requests from OK sites. However, instead of placing those link on their site, the put it on some directory or other link exchange site that has nothing to do with the site requesting the link exchange.
What going on? I sent some of these guys emails to ask them to put the link where it is supposed to. I haven't got any reply so far.
Now, when I see different domains in the link request, I just delete it. It gets annoying after a while.
But I wonder, did my page got to so stupid link exchange directory that couldn't care less about quality?
I just got an idea to specify of the page that if I see different domains, they won't get anything...
Anybody had the same problem? What did you do about it? _________________ Italian Fashion Designer

There are some unscrupulous people out there who won't play by the rules.
As long as you don't link back to these poor quality sites or link farms you won't get penalised, you can't control who links to you but you decide who you exchange reciprical links to and other links.
I've had a few emails lately from people proposing triangular link exchanges instead of just straightforward 2 way links. This way all the links appear to be 1 way.
I'm getting out of the whole 'links page' thing anyway, SE's don't regard them as quality if they're on a page stuffed full of links, particularly if there are irrelevant links there as well.
I just had a reply from someone I contact through the sitesell value exchange agreeing to exchange a link from my home page for a link on their 'links page'...
There are some people to look out for out there, are you applying to directories for 1 way backlinks? _________________ Make Music Online Yeah that's right - I said music! I'm a musician so that's my niche - what's yours? |

These guys are looking to do 3-way link exchange. It can be a good thing, but I wouldn't do it ALL the time.
It's sorta a win-win situation, where everyone gets a one-way link back to each others sites. Though, having a nice 3rd site would be advisable for them, not some crappy directory to place your link on.
Either way, check the quality of the 3rd site and if it's up to par with your standards, then go ahead and do the exchange. _________________ 2009 Insider Secrets

Thanks both.
The idea of a 3-way link didn't even cross my mind, although I knew about it.
I would do it, but not with the sites they propose. And a lot of the link exchange requests I get have my link on the same sites, such as highrankingsites com and some other similar directories. How's that for quality...
Anyway, I put a note on the link exchange page asking potential partners to put my link on the same site, unless they propose a triangular exchange, and if so, to be specific about it. _________________ Italian Fashion Designer

It's very common for companies to hire outside firms to build their links. While building the links page is linked from the homepage. As soon as they have reached their goals the links page is an "orphan" in cyberspace. Your link is there with the hundreds or thousands of others, but there is nothing linking to those pages. Of course they alwasy ask for a link to their homepage. This happens all the time. Concentrate on linking strategies that are not reciprocal. And remember, at least for now Google loves Blogs. _________________
