it may cost a little more to print, but it's easier to cart the 100 pages you might actually read onto the plane instead of all 600 pages of a huge book like the SBI Action Guide Of for those commuting by bus/train etc. it can be a godsend to only lug the pages you may read not the whole paper book. and perhaps to keep another copy at work so if you forget to bring it you can print pages for the commute before heading home. _________________ New England gardening with roses |

There are some answers that no one has thought of yet - so these are the reasons I write ebooks...
1) If I have an ebook (or three) already for sale, then a publisher already has a fair idea that I'm going to be a marketable author to have in their stables, so they'll offer me money to put my ebook into print.
2) If I only released books/novels in print, then I'm potentially missing the online audience, who are more willing to buy ebooks for the convenience of the instant download.
3) Publishers are notorious for taking print books out of print within minutes of sales figures dropping too low - so releasing the same text as an ebook keeps an out-of-print book in the marketplace (and can sometimes even stop the print book from going out of print in the first place)
Just my two cents

Friends,
In a short time I will remove my free ebook.
The reason is as follows: I am afraid my Alexa ranking (and Google ranking) is (has been) a bit biased by this post: Many people have downloaded the eBook, and I think it shows in Alexa statistics. I want my statistics to reflect an unbiased audience (the world )
So if you don't mind, I will remove my free download link sometime in the weekend.
I just hope that you enjoyed the eBook, and that it was of some help, it was made as a gest to all of my friends here at this forum only.
HAVE A BLESSED WEEKEND, ALL _________________ DatabaseDesigner

Alf,
Steady on a minute...

That's a bit radical. Are you going to start charging for it?

Blimey, it's getting more radical by the minute...
I thought the whole point of Alexa for most people was to artificially manipulate their implied traffic figures.

If Alexa is the real problem, how about setting up a separate domain to host the ebook - and not link to your others. That way your site's Alexa ranking will be "more meaningful", but you will retain the goodwill (and sigs) on this forum.
It seems such a waste to remove the book altogether.
Just a thought,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Charlie,
Much sense in your post.
No, no charge for it. There must be many such ebooks out there.
I just started to think (and worry) about my target audience vs. all you friends here at the forum, and wondered about traffic mix. I also thought that those ho needed it, had downloaded it by now.
Given second thoughts, I'll let it stay for now, after all it seems it's been helpful to many. _________________ DatabaseDesigner

Alf, If you don't want to create a separate domain for it, create a separate page on your site. If you do a page, then you can also offer recommended links to IM products that are of interest to webmasters, including one for SBi and maybe make a few commissions as well.
I agree with Charlie that insofar as Alexa is concerned, it isn't ANYTHING to worry about Don't feel guilty by the nice ranking, enjoy it

Debs,
That was a GOOD idea! I will do precicely that. And thanks, Charlie.
I just have a current serious writer blocking: My first eBook has begun to sell, I have one in writing and one in planning, but at the moment I'm totally blocked. Very annoying, because it would sell nicely in parallel with the existent one. _________________ DatabaseDesigner
