Post subject: Free Newsletter if you own an eBay store
|
|
|
Just thought that I would post this for anyone that owns an eBay store.
I am heavily involved in RSS and while I was reading up news on RSS I came across an interesting article about eBay giving you a free newsletter and RSS feed if you own an eBay store.
Anyway sticking to the newsletter topic I thought that I would add this because not many people seem to know about it. If you own an eBay store, eBay allows you to create a newsletter for the store for free for up to 1000 emails.
I think that this is a neat tool for marketing your "eBay business" if you don't have access to an autoresponder and would like to start to build a highly targeted customer list focused on your store alone.
Obviously this does not beat having a commercial autoresponder where you can send thousands of messages to an email list with followups etc but it is a great tool that you could use to notify your eBay specific customers.
I am not sure if blogpost urls are Ok on the forum, but this is a link to the blog entry that contains the further link to the original article. (No this is not an affiliate link of any sort.)
Just my 2c
Regards,
Chris |

Chris,
A lot of marketers forget about eBay. The store rss feed is a great feature for anyone who has an eBay store. It would be interesting to know how many eBay users are RSS savvy.
It would also be interesting to know whether the email newsletter store owners can send is eBay branded, how many free ones a store owner can send in a month, and how much it costs to send more than the minimum.
I know I have many repeat eBay buyers, but I don't have an eBay store. Makes me think about getting one. Now if I could only find the time.
And of course the eBay store isn't free. But with the right tactics, it is a no brainer to make it pay for itself, and the best prospects are those who already raised their hand. _________________ Your Free Pass to the Members-only ListBuild List

For a small list of proven buyers it may even be worth paying 1 cent. For a large list...

By the way, if you look at my sig, I have wrote a small article about RSS enabling your website on my blog - the bootstrapper way (quick, dirty and free).

Hi guys,
Interesting thread that raises more questions.
Does e-bay give you access to the feed subscribers ?
Can you display the feed content on your own web page ?
Can you monetize the feed ?
If you close your store can you take your subscribers with you ?
Will e-bay market to your subscribers ?
Just a few thoughts.... _________________ Get a RSS Feed built, managed and hosted for your site. Marketing direct to the desktop.

Hello Gordon,
Thanks for raising some interesting questions, although I suspect that you already know these answers - judging from the services that you sell in your sig...
Anyway I am answering these on an unqualified basis based on the I information I have at hand. (I am not an eBay store owner)

Probably only through your store feed.
| Tayads wrote: | | Can you display the feed content on your own web page ? |
Probably NOT.

If you're talking about selling 3rd party advertising in your feed then the answer is no.
However, your feed contains your new items or sales items that you have on sale in your ebay store - if that is not "monetizing" your feed then ....

Hmmm... good question. Mind if I ask you one? If you are making good money with your store would you want to close it?

I don't think so.
Your post does open some good questions that people should consider. One thing to remember though is that if you look into the profile of eBay store owners, they are usually people that are not to technically savvy and don't want to bother server management and other tecnicalities. They want the ability to sell their goods online with the minimum of fuss.
Granted there are others that are very smart and are using the store to tap into the eBay customer source. For these smart marketers it would not be extremely difficult to move over their customers to their main site.
I looked at your website and see that you are offering similar services at a jaw-dropping price. Why don't you open an eBay store to check out what your competition is doing and come back and tell us the results? I'd really like to know from an expert in the field what they think. |
