Do you send the page of the homepage of your blog or the page that your latest post is on (the single page)?

if you ping it shouldn't matter because it should look over the blog and find the new content.

What kind of blog are you pinging, ie wordpress, blogger, etc. Are you pinging by using something like Pingomatic, or is the blog pinging itself? Give us some details so we can help.

Looks fine to me. The spiders will find you. Every time you post, Wordpress is essentially pinging that post, so you don't need to do anything, unless you find some more good places to ping and add them to your list..

Mikem,

I take it you are wondering if the pings are actually sent. Or sent correctly. Since you entered them in Wordpress the only issue would be with Wordpress itself. I think that is a question for Wordpress experts over at Wordpress.org.

Nutty,

By default Blogger only pings weblogs.com, if you have it set to do so.

Use pingomatic for pinging a blogger blog, it will ping the other important services.

Also don't forget to get My Pages at Yahoo and MSN and add your blog feed to them. At Google, get a personal homepage and add your feed there also.

Doing this last thursday and friday by today my last Blogger blog was indexed in all three places.

You can go into your blog account, at least with Blogger, and change your settings so that your blog can display say 1 week's worth of posts, which is what mine does, or if you want to set it to only a single post I think you can do that too.

When you send pings, it is telling the different servers that you select that your blog has new information on it, and the spiders will then go to it.

I started using Ping-o-matic as instructed, but they were having technical difficulties and the site was down for a while. I'm not sure about now, but heard of someone having troubles recently. So if the site is down and you can't ping, you can always use www.ipings.com
as an alternative. There are other pinging sites too, but that's what I use.

At Ping-o-matic by the way, I was told to not select the specialized servers - not necessary and slows down the servers or something to that effect. Most people are happy with ipings - I think it's new.

Hope that helps,

Liane Bate

Liane,

Thanks for posting the link to ipings. Pingomatic has had server issues lately, always good to have new resources.
