I've been having some quite annoying problems with adsense on my homepage.
My site is about debt and solutions for consumers to 'beat debt' (the domain name of the site). On most of my other pages I'm getting relevant ads except for my homepage.
Although the site is about debt just about every ad I'm getting is for collection agencies, software and just debt collection stuff.
I haven't optimised the page to try and target any high paying keywords because I'd rather have relevant ads and I don't want to have to compromise my content in the interest of chasing the money.
Having said that I've read around ( I have the Joel Comm book and the Michael Cheyney videos) done a lot of searches, read Google's optimization tips and spoken to them several times about this and all they've told me is to 'play around' with my phrases etc.
I've also tried using section targeting with absolutely no change at all. I'm using the competitive ad filter as well for all the URI's for the collection ads I'm getting but new ones keep crawling out of the woodwork.
I'm not concerned on the lack of CTR it's causing I'm more worried that my site for people looking for help getting out of debt is being dominated by ads for debt collectors on the homepage- it's having a bad effect on my business credibility that worries me the most.
Does anyone have any suggestions for anything I've missed? So far I've tried all the on page SEO such as headings, density etc. The section targeting tool is doing sweet nothing- I'm starting to tear my hair out a bit and am spending way too long trying to tweak my content just to get rid of the fascist debt collectors from my homepage.
Maybe I'll take the ads off the homepage altogether, it's probably not the best place for them anyway. It's very annoying that it's happening despite every 'trick' I try and do. I just applied for Yahoo Publishing Network... _________________ Do You Really Want To Quit Your Day Job?

How frustrating! It sounds as though you're doing all the right things. I wonder if it would help if you went to your competitors' sites - ones which are getting appropriate debt ads - and analyzed the difference in the words they're using and your words?
I guess you've already thought of that! _________________ Allan Gardyne

Hi dotdash,
I was wondering if you did tryyahoo ads and if that made a difference. If you tried yahoo ads please let us know how it worked out for you. I would have to agree that it's not worth keeping the google ads if it effects your credibility. _________________ Money-Making-Online.net - Huge Google Profits |

Hi,
I agree with Nietzsche about contacting Google. I had the same issue on one of my sites...changing text, section targeting, etc...nothing worked. I contacted Google with the particulars and within a few days they had it working.
They never said exactly what was wrong, except that it was an issue on their end.
Good luck,

Google needs to give publishers the same flexibility as advertisers and allow them to specify negative keywords. You could do it for ads appearing anywhere on the site, or individual pages.
Granted, you only have the title and description of an ad with which to work. It would help considerably, though.
If Yahoo offers a remedy for irrelevant ads on pages with well-focused content, Google will have even more publishers jumping ship. _________________ Nancy

Try Outboutmedia.com's ads : Their targeted to your sites content and can work along side with adsense.
Basically you do the same thing as adsense, generate some html code, and insert it to your web page.
The text banners are dynamically generated. _________________ http://www.outboutmedia.com - Monetize your website using Pay Per Click (PPC) contextual banner ads that automatically match your sites content. |

Filter or remove. And when dealing with Google you have to think links - some you can control and some you can not control. You can not manipulate the Adsense Bot simply by changing on page keywords. There are a couple of things you have to do. And the downside is once you get just the right ads, it may actually be detrimental to your ranking - crazy eh? _________________ FREE SEO and Keyword Suggestion Tools
