Post subject: How to name a folder
|
|
|
Hi guys,
I hope you can give me a helping hand here.
I'm about to start building new pages for one of my sites. All these new files will be placed in a separate folder on the server.
The reason I will put all new files in a separate folder is that I don't want to check for and worry about duplicate file names and that I unintentionally overwrite existing pages.
My question is about how I should name the folder I put all the new pages in.
For example:
I could name the folder
'/generalkeyword/'
or simply
'/a/'.
The way I see it, '/generalkeyword/' would look like search engine spam and I don't want that, therefore I would like to name it '/a/'.
What do you guys think?
I would love to hear your thoughts and any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

"Generalkeyword" makes sense to me. _________________ Allan Gardyne

Just to be different, I'll go for... "general-keyword".
Seriously, this isn't "spammy", just good, natural organisation for humans.
There used to be some evidence that pages outside the root domain weren't treated so favourably, but this isn't considered important now - certainly not for one level down.
Cheers,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

You definitely want to name the directory something appropriate. Like what the other guys are saying, nothing spammy about it at all. I think people get too paranoid over getting penalized by Google and such. Just design your site in a way that makes sense to you and you'll be fine. _________________ Avalon
