Tag and ping can drive thousands of visitors to your site, and it's free. but that depends on the quality of content you have.

Hi there,

I've recently added tags to a couple of my blog posts, but I'm worried about what a "bad tag" is and what if I am linked to sites with a lower PR than my own and I lose some of my page ranking - or is that not important?

If anyone can enlighten me, it would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Liane

leb123z: I dont think that you understand the concept of backlinking. If someone links to you with a lower PR it doesnt mean that your PR will lower.
What do you call a bad tag?

Hi there,

Yes, it's possible I'm not quite clear on some concept, but I'm not sure which one!

Let's say I use a tag on my blog that uses keywords that are rarely searched. Is this considered a bad or useless tag?

Then someone adds me to their social bookmark list in which case...my high PR site on a lower PR site would not decrease my page rank, but is social bookmarking not sort of a reciprocal link exchange and their lower PR could affect mine negatively, and they would benefit from my higher PR?

Sorry, I am a little fuzzy on this - must read more!

Liane

there are 2 factors that you need to consider when optimizing a website. Onsite optimization and offsite optimization. Offsite optimization is all the link building and directory submitting. An extra link will never hurt, but it would be nice if it contained one of your main keywords. Onsite optimization is title, metatags and content keyword density that matter.
