I've never place adsense on both sides. I usually put it on one side and the navigation on the other.
You can create a table with 3 columns with the sides being close to 180px. The center column can be a fixed or variable width.
Just put a skyscraper into a side column and that's it. You can readjust the widths to whatever fits.
For SEO, you'll want the content to appear first. Try searching google for SEO tables _________________ Charles Amith

There are also many good 3 column CSS templates you can use. Just put your navigation across the top, and adsense on both sides.
Or put your navigation above one of your adsense blocks... I did that on one of my sites, and it is working pretty well. _________________ Eric D. Burdo
