I just started posting in forums to to gain traffic. How many different forums do you participate in.

Hi - Yes, forum posting does drive some traffic to your site, depending on how interesting your signature is. I do post in some forums, but two hours is a long time to be spending. I just don't get the time.
I have a handful of favourite forums and will spend a little time in each week posting in them, and also reading a couple of interesting posts.

Well, forum traffic doesn't necessarily mean you'll get quality traffic (which is the real key). If, for example, you sell something on your site and 100 people from a forum who are also selling the same thing view your site to peep at the competetion, what good is that 100 hits? None. So, I say posting in forums is not always the best thing for traffic.

There are many examples that have been written abuot numerous times. For example, writing and submitting articles (everywhere you can), optimizing your site for organic SEO and gaining backlinks, adding your site to directories, starting an adword campaign, or even purchasing a link from a very high traffic relevant site. There are also many other alternatives too. Just need to be clever about it.
