Do you need to have a website to signup with affiliates? _________________ Casey Dorion |

I've been through the signup process of probably 9 different networks and I dont recall one that doesnt have an input line for a website. Some, however, allow Newsletters - but that sorta requires a website to sign up. Anyhow, what are you looking to do without a web site?

I'm far from sure many of them check the website out, though.
Just a thought,

Oh, without a doubt. Of the many many merchants within LinkShare (for example) only about half actually *check* your site for approval. _________________ JonC

I have received notice from a copule affiliate programs who are pulling their permission from affiliates to do email marketing until after the US Government finalizes their decision on the CAN SPAM bill. California's SPAM law goes into effect the beginning of January and quite a few merchants seem just a little nervous about the ramifications.
Now, considering this, I think you will find that email marketing requirements (by the merchants) will get tougher, as well as their affiliate agreements on hold harmless clauses. Should be interesting.
My feeling is the time is coming when they will want to see, and may absolutely require seeing, an established site before allowing you to join their program. So jump in while you can, and please, don't spam
And if I find out who sold my email (now on one of those dang lists that send me tons of spam), I'm coming after you :\ Noone on this board btw ... just razzing a lil ... I have it narrowed down to 3 places anyway lol

I haven't heard of any myself, but it doesn't surprise me. On paper those regulations look pretty draconian.

That needn't be a bad thing at all. Email spam is probably the hardest to police and the quickest to destroy a merchant's credibility (through no fault of their own).
If a merchant goes down, there won't be any commissions for the law-abiding affiliates either, so I think it's in everyone's interests for merchants to take a tough line.

One good way, is to register a domain like myLists.com with a host that allows unlimited email aliases, which you can forward to one POP account for the domain.
Then whenever you subscribe to something use a new email alias that identifies the destination in your email.
For example naughtymarketer4256 [AT] myLists.com
Then when you receive any spam you will know exactly where they got your address from. The thunderbolts can then be aimed with deadly accuracy (at your direction) by the powers that be.
Also, it is very easy to filter out spam. I read about this technique years ago, but I am only now changing to this method. I like it.
All the best,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Thanks for the tip Charlie, that's a great idea I plan to implement! _________________ Learn how to turn keyphrases into quality, well-targeted articles your visitors and SE's will love with Gary Antosh's new ebook "Web Content Made Easy!" |

I've been doing that for a while now, Charlie, and it works like a charm. Once an address has been compromised, I can either filter it more aggressively (if there's still some useful stuff coming in on that address) or set my mail server to disable that account, so it looks like a dead address. _________________ http://www.OneStopUnder.com - serious reading for serious photographers. |

Most companies do not require that you have your own domain name. Even if the application says so, you can often put NA if you don't have one...

You don't have to have a website to promote all affiliate programs on the web!
Especially if you are referring new affiliates to do the work for you. As longs as they get to the site with your affiliate ID attached to the url, you should be alright.
When joining the affiliate programs, it would be best to try and find out first, to make sure if you can earn from them without having to have a site. _________________ Affiliate Programs Directory - Over 2,000 Programs
