I recently saw a site (can't remember the URL, sorry) that was promoting internet marketing products, showing you how to get a 'secret discount'. What he was actually doing was getting you to sign up to the affiliate program under him, and buy through your own link. He claimed to have approval from the sellers to do this.

I guess he was hoping the discount would encourage more people to buy, so he'd make up for lower per-sale commissions with a higher number of total sales.

I've no idea whether it was working for him or not.

Out of every 5 sales there's usualy one that involves someone signing up for the program simply to buy the dish for themselves.

If affiliate programs want to be taken seriously they should discourage this activity. It's only deducting income from the affiliates that generate the most leads.

I see no reason why affiliate managers couldn't withhold commissions on the first sale, or even only pay commission from the second.

But let's remember that in certain sectors, affiliate programs are more than just sales networks for the merchant... the affiliates are potential customers.

At the end of the day, the merchant cares about sales. Why should he concern himself with who gets the commission? If you feel strongly, vote with your feet. If enough people agree, policies will change.

Most affiliate tracking flaws rely on a convenient mixture of greed and ignorance on the part of the average (underperforming) affiliate.

All the best,
Charlie.

That's why I like affiliate programs that have minimum payout amounts. I can wait an extra month or two for the money, especially if it's only going to be a small amount anyway. But it really discourages other people from signing up as an affiliate when they know they'll only make the one sale, and it won't be enough to earn them a cheque.

Hi All,

Please forgive me if this is the wrong thread to ask this question. I did a search on Corey Rudl and this is the first and only thread I will be browsing at the moment as I ended up working all night on my site and researching on others. Time to catch some shut eye.

What is the general consensus after the pros and cons are weighed...is it considered worthwhile at this stage to get involved with Corey Rudl programs?

If so do any of his programs (which admittedly I haven't looked at closely, yet) fit in with the Real Estate Investing and Web Development themes of my web site?

Thanks for any insight you care to provide.

Best to all in 2004.

I think http://www.rudlreport.com/ is the site your referring to?

I think most of the money made there is from people purchasing alternate items (non-corey products) which Bill talks about extensively in his report.

That and his report is so fairly priced, he makes a pile of sales...

Do I think Corey's products are worth it? Dunno... never bought any of them. I don't have the spare cash, and with a little research and work, I can get almost the same stuff for free...

Er...no. I tried to retrace my steps to figure out what it was that led to the question. I had gotten the impression (somewhere) that Rudl had a variety of products that could be sold thru affiliate programs.

Then this thread seemed to indicate a problem with the marketing set up that wasn't beneficial to the affiliate.

Guess I better do some rereading with a rested mind.

Thanks for the reply!

Actually, I did buy one of Corey's products... his email manager program. I returned it after about two weeks, because I could not get it to work, and their tech support wouldn't answer my responses...

Are you talking about Mailloop?

The point where marketing meets programming is where the most money is often to be made. The trouble is, few people are skilled at both...

Software generally is a very different animal from ebooks when it comes to support...

I often wish I could speak to techies. Their customer service "skills" might be less "polished", but at least they know what they are talking about.

I have talked with IMC's support staff regarding their ebooks and affiliate program, and found them to be responsive and helpful.

All the best,
Charlie.

No, he has/had a program called MyEmailManager... had some nice features, but the level of tech support wasn't working... and I couldn't afford to pay the $25 a month to see if it would work for me... I spent three weeks just waiting to see if they would respond to my emails...

Now I just use EGGS. Its free... doesn't have all the nifty features of some other programs, but it is in PHP, so I can hack anything i need changed...

I've heard of it. Same old tech support problems, by the sound of it.

Is it just me, or is PHP much easier than perl (say) for "amateurs" to play around with?

Certainly for little jobs - HTML embedding rules OK! Wink

Cheers,
Charlie.

I've done some Perl and PHP both. I prefer PHP for any web stuff... and Perl for any server scripts that I run (utilities).

I think PHP is easier to learn than Perl, since PHP is geared (a little bit anyway) more towards the HTML integration...

Hi ~neodemes~ ,

I work at Corey Rudl's company as the Affiliate Manager.

If you have any questions on how our Affilate Program can serve you please contact us at your earliest convenience. Just email affiliates @ marketingtips.com with all your questions.

One question you had:
If so do any of his programs (which admittedly I haven't looked at closely, yet) fit in with the Real Estate Investing and Web Development themes of my web site?

- Our Internet Marketing information products are training tools for anyone who wants to know how to effectively start, grow, manage and automate a successful Internet business of any kind. Our software tools will help you grow and/or manage your business more effectively.

I know that sounded like a sales pitch but its the bottom line...

I hope this helps in some way.
