Hi,

What is the Clickbank policy if an affiliate needs to buy an eBook to evaluate and become conversant with, before marketing it as an affiliate.

Can the affiliate purchase the eBook through his own affiliate ID? It would seem strange if this where not the case for two reasons. First, once the eBook is marketed by the affiliate, the affiliate will receive say 50% of the sale total, so why not receive the same 50% for himself by way of a discount. Also, if the eBook is to be marketed, it is not unreasonable to aquire it at the discounted price for evaluation and training purposes.

If you found the ebook on Clickbank on your own, that would be a reasonable assumption. However, if you find the ebook through another marketer's link, then it's commission theft.

The problem is, the merchant might find he had more "potential partners" than customers.

He might of course decide to set the price higher and then encourage affiliates to buy through their own link. This does not go down well (with serious affiliates) when there is a link to the affiliate program on the sales page. Especially not marketing (where customers and affiliates are often one and the same) ebooks promoted through Clickbank (where many potential customers are already members).

Cheers,
Charlie.
