I believe that article marketing does work but it doesn't haf annoy me when I submit an article I have taken care to writ and then the article directory owner cannot be bothered to login and approve the article for months....
I have many articles submitted back in February still waiting for approval.
There is little point in running an article directory if you do not check out the articles submitted. I think the matter has been made much worse by all the automated submitters and the free directory scripts but still...

I submit to over 500 article directories using Article Submitter Pro

and will be keeping an eye on those that have not approved or reviewed articles after say 2 months. I know article directory owners can get swapped. I own an article directory myself but make a habit of not accepting automated submissions (ASP is only semi-automatic) as always go into wrong categories and many badly written and I check the articles submitted every couple of days.
I will let you know my findings as I go along.

Hi Rachel  As an article dashboard forum mod, I get to see what you are talking about first hand. Although article dashboard is one of the free scripts you mentioned, I firmly believe it is not the script being free that keeps articles in cue too long, but the person whos responsibility it is to approve/decline the articles. On the other hand, I know of many more free article dashboard site owners that are very careful with the article admin and approve/decline quickly and most send a note letting authors know what happened to their submission
I've also experienced having my articles "disappear" for months on paid script sites, so I know your frustration. I've always started an email compaign on those sites far too slow to do something with my articles (whether to approve or whatever) and have usually gotten good results, and those sites tend to approve my articles quicker after that rather than have me annoy them LoL ...
Also, I re-scripted our free article marketer submission script so that thier auto submission articles go into the right categories now. I hated having all those auto submissions to go thru every day

Hi Jan,
I agree nothing to do with script, although I think people do download the free script, add it to their site thinking it will imedaitely boost search engine rankings and do nothing. However, I have the free script and make a point of reviewing articles every other day at least.
I understand that people go on holiday, are very busy etc, but I there are directories I have submitted 4 or 5 articles to over the last 3 or 4 months and not one has been reviewed or approved. I have emailed these owners at least once, usually twice. A few eventually got back and approved articles, others I haev never heard from, some the emails were invalid and a few had no contact details as they had not altered the script to include them. These latter ones I have deleted from my submissions list as pointless waste of time.
Others I have made a list of and will be checking them all in around 2 weeks and posting in forums the article directories to avoid as articles are not reviewed.

If any of those sites that don't approve/decline are article dashboard sites, I truly want to know who they are, cause I WILL call them on that kind of bad business behavior ... I fact, I think I will post another reminder about this in the article dashboard forum. May not help much, but hey, it couldn't hurt

Ok, well after several months of posting articles (and it certainly does seem to increase back links & traffic a little) the following article directories have been removed from my list to submit to. I have submitted around 6 or 7 articles to them all. I have monitored which approved articles and which didn't. Those that didn't I tried to contact and to ask for articles to be reviewed. Only one ever responded (Article Snatch) to say it was a staffing issue. I run an article directory, there is just little 'ole me and I manage to keep on top of submissions.
The following did not review articles and had no working contact details or had not even bothered to change template to give email addresses:

Article Circuit - no response and none approved
Article Corral - no response waiting for reviews since March.
Article Fair - no response and no articles approved (since Feb)
Article Nest - no response and no articles approved since end of March
article rocket - no response and no articles approved (since Feb)
article search online - no response and no articles approved (since Feb)
Article Snatch (mar) - staffing issues but do reply
Article Village - no response and no articles approved (since Mar)
article world - no response and nothing approved since March
Article-blogs.info - no response and no articles approved (since Feb)
articles home - no response and no articles approved (since mar)
Free Articles Directory - no response and no articles approved (since Feb)
I want content - no response and no articles approved since Feb
ITsuccessWorld - no response and no articles approved (since Feb)
Lead Articles - no response and no articles approved (since Feb)
Submit Articles Online - no response and no articles approved (since Feb)
Superzines.com - no response and no articles approved (since mar)
The Writer's Heart article directory deserves a special mention. I wrote to the article directory owner asking them to approve my articles. They did actually respond a few days later asking for my pen name and email I was registered with - I duly sent these. A few weeks later they still had not reviewed articles, so I wrote again. I was again asked for pen name etc. I said I had already sent these and yet articles still not reviewed and as I was compiling a list articles not worth submitting to, I would appreciate it if the matter was sorted. Then the owner got very rude and threatening and just deleted all my articles and my membership.
There were many others either not working, hacked or not accepting submissions.
Out of 700+ article directories I am down to 350! But at least these all actually review articles.

Well, about the only good thing I see in that list is that my sites not included in it, nor site owners I personally know ... I would suspect that the list of sites that don't respond or respond rudely are obviously sites who's owners only care about thier site being on the web for some financial reason that doesn't include the authors.
I can understand getting backed up with articles and getting behind, but theres really no excuse for being rude to your visitors, or authors.
Of course, I don't know why the site owners aren't approving or responding, and some may have a good reason, but they should at least let thier authors know that article approval may be delayed.
Thanks for posting your list, and just so you know, your articles and emails will always be checked/answered in a timely manner at Articles Heaven

It is nice to see that http://articles.simplysearchit.com is not in the list. The articles on this site is always reviewed on a daily basis.
Articles are not really something that you can keep waiting, when articles get submitted to an article directory they should be approved ASAP as they are kind of like news stories and get outdated.

Edit: I just realized I replied to a 2 year old thread. WOW! How things have changed since then. I just came to this thread cause an author sent it to me.

Rachel,
We are very very very quick to review initial submissions - most are done within 3 hours. However when someone makes an edit - then it can take a little longer to get things reviewed again. We encourage authors who make changes to email us so that we can take care of it quickly.
Additionally if articles contain certain words they are declined and removed immediately - but we will assume that you are not promoting a pharmacy or adult website.
