Hello everyone,
I wanted to see if anyone wanted to tell their story of how they started their first newsletter. How did you promote it. What break thoughs did you find helped you along the way. What software really helped you. Did anyone pay for space on other newsletters to get their word out.
Hi there. I think it was sometime in 1999 when I started my first newsletter. I can't remember the exact software but it was something like email listing pro - I don't know if you can still get it, and I think i bought it from tucows or something similar. It wasn't an autoresponder either - u had to add the emails addresses to it manually, then hit a submit button when you sent out your newsletter.
How did I promote it? So far as I can remember and it's tough to remember so far back, I was a member of several forums, so I included the link in my signature. I also moderated a large forum, so that helped.
I sold an informational product on ebay, and anyone who bought that also became a newsletter subscriber - it was an automatic freeby offer with the product.
It's so difficult to remember what else I did, and this may not be much help, as I hadn't got a clue about traffic or rankings or anything else back then. I did have a lot of subscribers though, and I put most of it down to providing good information, and I guess a lot of them told their friends. I sent out the newsletter weekly, and that seemed to work out well.
Hopefully someone with a better memory, or a more recent first newsletter will be able to provide more up to date info! _________________ Catherine Lawson's Business Advice Blog
