Just in case you haven't heard this news...

Markus Frind created a free dating website called PlentyOfFish.com which gets 14 million to 15 million pageviews a day and rakes in $10,000 a day from AdSense.

There's no huge staff. It's a two-person operation.

You can read a little about it here.

Andrew Johnson interviews Markus Frind.

Markus advocates a very simple, fast-loading design.

Quote:
Function over form to build an emotional connection with the user. Blend ads into content, No flashing crap, make the site useful. Basically all those things that everyone knows you are supposed to do, but very few people actually do.

Ironicallly, Markus says this in his "About" page:

Quote:
Money? Who Cares
I am well aware that Plentyoffish.com could make millions of dollars per month as a subscription service. I couldn?t care less about how much money Plentyoffish.com could make; this site is different.

I hope this gives some some useful ideas.

One interesting thing is that 90% or more of the Adsense ads feature paid dating sites. I wonder how likely is someone to sign up and pay for such a site from a free dating service... Not to say those companies won't be thrilled when they realise they sponsor a competitor.

But with all those clicks, there's obviously an interest in other dating sites, so competitors or not, it's probably not a waste of money. The clickers may be looking for features that Frind's site doesn't have, or else they want to have access to more variety of "prospects." Wink

Markus Frind, as well as John Reese have clearly demonstrated that the #1 key to making lots of money with Adsense is to get HEAVY, TARGETED TRAFFIC to your site(s).

A smart marketer gets traffic from all angles, not just the search engines. He gets them by being better than most of the other marketers out there. In other words, he stands out from the crowd. In order to stand head and shoulders above the rest he must know his craft and be intimately tied to the changing currents in search engine marketing and other forms of online marketing.

I read about this site in a blog that it is run by an AI robot!; maybe he is using a very flexible CMS script; but ireally wonder how he makes so much money from adsense. There is only a single horizontal banner on top of every page; I guess the CTRs must be very high. Still though for a dating site with no useful content to boast he just stumbled upon the adsense income .... Wink

Hmmmm.. I think it's not just the CTR but the keywords are probably quite highly-paying too...and yes it's amazing that he made $1mil from only having one leaderboard on the top section of his site. There are no adsense in his forums at all.

Before i visited his site, I thought he'd pasted ads in the right columns, bottom section and ALL OVER the website and forum to get that sort of income, but I saw that was not the case.
Go to his site and all you'll find is that single leaderboard... Shocked

Traffic, real traffic is his secret.

I'm still learning about this adsense business and just going the slow way, building content and more content... Cool

Congrats to Markus! He's really got his pot of gold!

Looks like ppl usually think that more ad units can yield better revenue. But is it true? Do u expect your visitors clicking more because u show more ads to them?

More ads will just "dilute" your higher pay ads (higher pay ads usually show first... and then lower pay ones).
