Sarah,
Check with your web site host, they should have detailed instructions on how to use ftp. Hope this helps. _________________ Simple PC Talk |

FTP means File Transfer Protocol. You can transfer your files located on your computer using FTP software to your host. Your webhosting company itself provides you the FTP information like your ftp address , username and password. You can use FTP software like CuteFTP , SmartFTP to upload your files to web. _________________ Checkout For The Craziest Offer On Internet

If you have a web site (and looking at your sig, it appears that you do), you can place the .PDF files in any accessible directory and then create a link to them (ex. <a href="http://www.yoursitename.com/yourpdfname.pdf">) and users can open the pdf up in almost any web browser and then save it to their hard drive. In this case neither you nor your users will need to know or have a FTP client.
Not sure if this is what you were looking for, but thought it may help _________________ Jonathan Cochran

I think the question was how to get the PDF to the web server in the first place, as opposed to downloading them.
But this reminded me of a handy way of uploading files without FTP client software. Ask your host for the FTP address of your site and then open that link in your browser, resulting in what looks like a window showing folders. Then all you have to do is drag and drop the PDF from the folder on your PC to the appropriate folder icon on the FTP window.
This can be a bit touch buggy, but is usually works fine with single files. Just remember to put it somewhere below the web root, or no one else will be able to access it. As with any download, it's always best to give full instructions, however obvious it is to us.
Just a thought,
Charlie.
P.S. By the way, many people prefer to download PDFs directly (right click - save as) as oposed to opening in the browser first. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

I used to use the same way as Charlie says when I am at someone elses pc that didn't have an FTP program installed.
just open a windows explorer window and type into the address or path bar
ftp://username:password@ftp.yourhost.com
(obviously, you'll need to change the details to fit your own)
and you should be able to see the contents as normal windows icons for files, then just drag your file across to the correct sub directory.
It works for most things, for a PDF it will be just fine I should think.
regards
Andy
