What are your interests, other than making money? The focus should not be on making money, but you should start with your personal interests and build a website from there after researching the competitiveness of different markets. Find an area/niche that interests you that is in high demand, but has a less competitive market.
I suggest reading Robert Allen's book Multiple Streams of Internet Income. There are other great books out there too, but this one got me motivated.
You can start with affiliate programs, or you can start with your own products. I would start with affiliate programs and then build a product from there.
There are no ways to get rich quick. You have to put the time and energy and effort into it consistently. It also takes a monetary investment, but there are many free and cheap ways to advertise and promote your website. Adsense is a way of promoting your website.
You have to determine if you have the time and funds available to do this...Make a business plan, set a budget for yourself that you can maintain. Do your reading and research first!
Good luck!

thanks for replying leb123z
i read that adsense was a good program for the beginner. I dont understand how it works though, do u have to pay google for each click or do they pay you. Do you have to pay to be in an affiliate program? , and how much investment are we talking about and what for? Also i am interested in the auto industry and my mom is heavy in ceramics, would those be topics of interest?
thank you , again for any input!

Hi Ken,
I wouldn't concentrate on advertising yet. Concentrate on what kind of website you would like to have on what topic. Yes, auto industry and ceramics are personal interests that you could turn into a good website. Search google on these topics and look at the websites out there to get some ideas.
There are many affiliate programs that are free to join. Some of them you might pay for. A good book to read is Affiliate Selling : Building Revenue on the Web by Greg Helmstetter.
You can get free web-site setups, do it yourself with a program and HTML, or pay someone to do it for you. My website was set up for free.
Once you have a website, you need a web-host which varies in price. I pay $24.95/month for mine but you can find hosts much cheaper than that.
You need a newsletter and autoresponder, maybe around $24.95/month.
You need to get traffic to your site, to get ahead of the competition so your site can be found in the search engines, and pay for some advertising. There are many free ways to advertise, but you probably want to make a monetary investment here. This can get pricey.
There's a big learning curve, it takes time, and it does take money, but if you set a budget and don't expect too much too fast, you can do it and succeed!
PS - no you don't have to pay for Adsense - you get paid when someone clicks that link on your site.

tcracing59, You don't have to choose between affiliate programs or AdSense. You can use both on a website. In fact, it's against the AdSense rules to build a site purely for AdSense.
The main difference is that with affiliate programs, you earn a commission on each sale you achieve. With AdSense, you earn money per click. Google pays you each time someone clicks on an AdSense ad on your site.
For people who are just starting out, I've written a free 18-step Affiliate Program Tutorial which explains all this stuff in more detail. _________________ Allan Gardyne

I would suggest that you just try to using both and then from what you see you can then make your own choice.
I say this because affiliate programs in general work better for some people than others. Adsense also works better for some than others.
Some people earn more from adsense than affiliate programs in general and then others earn more from affiliate programs than they actually earn from Adsense. _________________ Affiliate Programs Directory - Over 2,000 Programs
