I always thought earnings from ads are different to that of affiliation. In case of affiliation you have to complete some action put up by the advertiser.
Plentyoffish drives it's earning from adsense. _________________ Free Dating Online |

These discussions are always fun and motivating. Affiliate marketing can definitely be rewarding, it just depends on where you want to take it. Being an affiliate manager and working for one of the larger OPM affiliate management firms in the industry, I do get the advantage of seeing an inside look and the earnings of some top affilaites.
It's worth it to remember, that many of the big guys are actually organizations. They have web designers, SEO people, forum/blog posters, etc. doing a lot of the work to make their organization successful. So while they are making 50k - 100k, they also have a good amount of overhead to support as well.
Also, PPC costs. It's actually easy to make $50,000 in affiliate revenue, the trick though is keeping those ppc costs considerably lower than $50,000.
Now of course, that Markus guy is an exception, since I understand that he's pretty much build his site from the ground up by himself.
The greatest ideas aren't always so great...it's just that the people had the gumption to stand up and DO SOMETHING about their great idea.
