Hi

My name is Brian Morgan and I am wanting to earn a living marketing on the internet.

I have been looking at affiliate marketing for a long time, but haven't seriously taken the plunge.

I've joined many affiliate programs, but now I want to look at the quality products and services there are, and try to generate some income from marketing them.

I subcribe to Allan's newsletter, but to be honest it's been hard to focus on what I need to do, and just do it!

I don't have a website to promote yet, but Allan has recently gotten my attention with Adsense and I would like to do something along those lines, once I get an understanding of all it entails.

I would appreciate any advice which would help me to understand what tools I need, or practical advice starting out to make a living from the internet.

Thank you for reading this post and God Bless

Brian

Another great place to sign up for is Ken Evoy's 5 Pillar program.

It is free to join, and once a member you get access to all his back issues. Many people charge you to view back issues of their newsletters. Ken doesn't.

Here is a link to the 5 Pillar program of Ken's: http://www.redleif.com/5pillar.html

He also has some free books to read, and an Affiliate Masters course, which you can take by sending an email to: mailto:tamserixguide@sitesell.net

Hi Brian, welcome to the world of affiliate marketing. Smile If you are wanting to earn a good income from adsense then your best bet is to choose a topic which you are interested in and then check the popularity of that topic by doing related keyword searches on google to see how many ads there are and how many competing websites there are.

The reason for choosing something which interests you is that adsense will work best on a site with lots of pages of good, useful content - and it's much easier to write lots of pages about something you are enthusiastic about. Smile A useful content rich site will also be more likely to attract links from other quality sites. And the more pages you have the more adwords ads you can have on your site. So going this route will have it's advantages but will also require patience and time - it will take time to build the site and to increase traffic, unlike a quick mini site which you can build quickly and start getting traffic straight away via pay per click.

Don't let that put you off though - a good content rich site can earn a lot of money from adsense, it will just require work and time. In fact I am thinking of building a site based around adsense too - just need to decide on a good topic first. Wink

Are you a member of Ken Evoy's 5 pillar program? His last couple of ezine newsletters had some good advice on adsense, as did Allan's associate program newsletter.

Regards,

Mark.

Brian, I strongly advise you to choose the TOPIC first, not the affiliate program.

I could tell you some top-notch affiliate programs - to find them, all you have to do is look in my Top 10 - but they're all in the Internet marketing field - which is intensely overcrowded, and so it's a really difficult field for the newcomer to launch into.

Those programs work well for me, but that's no guarantee at all that they'll work well for you.

If you get started in the "Internet Marketing" field, you're competing against the brightest marketing minds on the planet. It makes much more sense to look for a less competitive niche.

You'd have much more chance of success if you do what Mark suggests and build a useful, interesting site on a topic in which you already have a keen interest. Find a quiet spot and do some serious thinking about that.
Check through the Yellow Pages, or the directory at Yahoo!, or a shop that sells a huge array of magazines - anywhere where there's a large array of possible subjects.

For good ideas on how to find your nice, reading Ken Evoy's "Affiliate Masters" course. It's free.

In fact, don't just read it, print it out and study it carefully and think about it.

It's about 100 pages of excellent information.

To get it, send a blank e-mail to makemytams@sitesell.net

Naturally, Ken will try to sell you his products - which are all very high quality - but remember that his free advice works with ANY affiliate program. It also works very well with AdSense.

You may eventually move on to something else, but doing things Ken's way is an excellent start. He's a fanatical perfectionist, so he makes a great mentor.

Hope that helps.

There is another way you can go, Brian.

I am involved with a program called "AffiliateShowcase". Actually my site at http://www.misteraffiliate.com is an executive version of an Affiliateshowcase website, with lots of my own personal customizations.

This program allows you to get a site similar to mine, customizable by you, that enables you to promote over 2,000 affiliate programs from one website. AND, the website itself is a product because AffiliateShowcase itself is an affiliate program.

You can systematically join as many programs as you want, (If you want to stay niche specific, you can do that too), and promote your favorite programs to your visitors when they arrive at your site. Most of the programs are free to join.

With this system, all you have to do is promote your AffiliateShowcase website, instead of each individual affiliate program.

If you'd like more info on this, please email me and/or visit my site.

Thank you everyone for your advice, I really appreciate it.

I do have a topic for Adsense, but I don't know who I can share it with to spin some ideas off about it Wink . The subject isn't exacly a niche one, but I am not sure that the idea I have has been worked on ( does that sound okay ?? ).

One last piece of advice if I may? I'm living in the UK which doesn't really mean a great deal, but if you were to be given the option of staying in your job, or taking the plunge working from home ( with a two year cushion ) what would you do?

Thanks again for the great advice.

Brian

With a year or two cushion? Work from home. If you have a year, give yourself 6 months to get things together. If you can't make a living by then, look for work and keep doing the "at home" thing. 2 years cushion? Give yourself 1 year.

I am about to start 9 to 5 job just to give me the cushion while I build my businesses up. I have one website producing about a hundred dollars a month. I plan on tweaking that one, and starting about 6 more over the next 6 months.

Also, you may want to pick 3 or 4 sites and build them each, one at a time. Better to diversify your holdings. :)

If you want, the "30 days to success" book (see link below) is a great way to find new areas to promote and earn money from.

Hey,

Ricpro3, are you making any worthwhile money with Affiliate Showcase? I was just curious, as Affiliate Showcase was one of the first sites I checked out when I began looking into Affiliate Programs/Money.

Thanks,

Cody

If he is promoting over 2000 programs from one site, he probably isn't making much, if any money. The "mall" approach doesn't work very well, in most cases. Of course, there are exceptions, but your best bet is to concentrate your site on one subject, with a few affiliate programs. If you give your customers too many choices, often their choice is to leave.

Hi Brian,

Ah, the ultimate question... How does one start to make a living online? There are as many answers to this question as there are people doing it! The point is DOING IT.

There have been a lot of suggestions, but I would personally stay away from MLM and rebrandable sites. You just become another internet marketer selling internet marketing in a sea of sharks. This is NOT a good area for a newbie.

Mark and Allan both suggested that you do what you love, or something that you know about, or you can consider things that close friends or family members know a lot about, have products or services to, etc.

Brainstorm.

I know a fellow who is an expert in physical education, so he created an exercise equipment review site - he makes a very decent income with this site, by simply reviewing various products and offering tips and techniques.

His first attempt failed, so he started over 6 months later - now it is going strong.

Don't be afraid of making mistakes, I certainly have made mine! Just keep ploughing ahead correcting, modifying, never giving up.

Take a look at the PPC "most searched terms" - and see if there is a topic that you are comfortable with (if there isn't a topic that's ok, choose your own), then see if it is possible to create a "review or tips" type site based on that topic - your goal is to be helpful, warm, and friendly to your visitors - trust creates click throughs and sales.

Seriously consider SBI to get you rolling and FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY! Then make as many pages as possible, get links... keep your fingers flying on that keyboard! Keep asking questions here in this forum, but most importantly - JUST DO IT!

You won't really learn what's best for YOU till you do.

Best Wishes and Good Luck!

have a new website being published now, and its main keyword, what the whole website is about was hit 83,000 times in june. can someone tell me, if that going to mean a lot of trouble trying to get this one near the top?
and then to broaden our efforts, we have started on a second website, though haven't a clue yet what to do, what do you do when you feel you really don't know enough about a topic to put it on the web?
