I hope I'm wrong, but I think there's a serious flaw in Google's new Google Page Creator. To me, it looks like an open invitation to spammers.
For people who want free web hosting, Google has created a WYSIWYG (what-you-see-is-what-get) Google Page Creator.
To get it, you can go to http://pages.google.com and sign in using your Gmail account.
If you don't have a Gmail account you can get one here:
https://www.google.com/accounts/SmsMailSignup1
(You need a mobile phone. If you don't have a mobile phone, you need to ask for an invitation to Gmail from an existing Gmail user.)
At this stage, each account can have only one site. "We'll soon be offering support for multiple sites," Google says.
I imagine the Page Creator will be popular with newcomer affiliates.
What concerns me is that your Gmail username automatically becomes part of the URL of your site.
So if your Gmail address is "example@Gmail.com", your website will be called http://example.googlepages.com .
It looks to me as though spam robots can now crawl the Internet finding Google Page Creator sites and know with 100% accuracy the email address of the site's owner.
Please tell me I'm wrong, someone.

Are they serious?
If Google was some two-bit company you could understand this lack of forward planning. I think it is a case of Google spreading themselves a bit too thin in an attempt to boost their drop in profits and share price!

If you follow Google, they do this sort of thing all the time. They did it with Analytics, they did it with Chat, they did it with GMail.
If you check the banner in the upper left, you'll see the word Beta. That's how Google releases stuff. As Beta. Then they based the future development on the responses they get.
As a side effect, you have to put up with the server downtimes, slow responses and "can't signup now, try again later". With Googles reputation (and the fact that all these programs are beta), they can get away with it.
Go check GMail. It is still considered Beta, and it has been around for what... 2 years now?

Yes, this is a common with various "free" hosting deals, including free space provided by ISPs (as opposed to web hosts).
Don't tell me Google are getting a bashing for being successful (again).
Besides, even if free hosted pages can rank well now, there are still various reasons why they aren't a good idea. I think this might be another reason - in this case.
At the end of the day, it is possible to get very cheap hosting and domains are ridiculously good value.

Well, if you will insist on letting your company be valued based on which direction a flock of sheep turn next, you deserve all the trouble you get. 
Am I the only one who thought that Google floating always seemed like a clash of philosophies - a betrayal of the spirit. And don't even mention China.

I don't think it's the end of the world. Ultimately the spam industry will be dealt with proactively - not by everyone trying to hide or disguise their email addresses from spambots.
Making your address hard to find doesn't really address the problem of spam and only provides temporary cover for the individuals who take steps to do so. |

Perhaps that's Google's goal - it's setting up a honey trap for spammers so it will know exactly who to attack.

It's the "ultimately" bit that's the problem for me. In the meantime...

Hang on a minute, if you hid it altogether it certainly would. Making the address not guessable (let alone downright calculable) is one factor.

Well I hope they've got plenty of honey...
Seriously, isn't this just another example of the sort of "herd mentality" tool Google loves to "empower" us with, these days.
As with everything, the trick to getting ahead is to do things differently. I didn't get where I am today doing things the way everybody else did, and neither did you (whoever you are).
If the gmail addresses weren't included in the URLs, would the Google Pages be worth shouting about? Apart from spreading the Google brand, I think not.
No doubt some people will be claiming that the pages get picked up quicker, but that isn't really the problem it used to be.

I am not sure if this is the case with my experience but I just got an email asking to varify my paypal account (you know the ones) When I mouseover the link it is a google domain.
google.com/url?sa=X&oi=dict&q=http://ool-182c15c9.dyn.optonline.net:82/fraud/login/index.php
Just what the net needs. More opprtunities to soil it.

The spammer isn't using a Google domain. It's using a feature of google's search engine to redirect you to their own cable modem, making it look like you're going to a Google site.
It's just like if I sent you a link to an "I'm feeling lucky" search for "miserable failure" and made it look like Google was running the White House web page.
This "flaw" in Google has nothing to do with Page Creator. |

I doubt if you're quoting Google 100% accurately. I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

If you want AdSense ads on your pages, you'll have to place the AdSense code on those pages.
