I read that submitting articles is a good way to boost visitors; however, I'm not sure how this is actually accomplished. Does anyone have experience that would help me submit my writing? What about finding the demand for my information?

Well ... the way I see ... submitting articles will achieve

1 - link back to your website, increase link popularity, increase search ranking
2 - a lot of visitors when published in huge ezines ...

how to submit ...

1 - submitting to databases ...
2 - submitting direct to publishers ...

I think Debs is better in this ...

Also, check your merchants to see if they have newsletters to their subscribers ... and offer your articles (that would tie into their product) for free publication in their newsletter to their customers and affiliates. The affiliate link would obviously be that of the newsletter owner, but the resource box is yours, and can drive more traffic to your site.

I actually now have several articles on CJ with one of my merchants as available affiliate content, so its good to help build authority in your subject matter as well.

David,

If your articles are well written and contain useful information, many of your readers will be inclined to visit your website to find out more about you. Always remember to include your website in the resource box.

Writing articles is a very effective way to market your website and increase your subscriber base 24/7, even while you are asleep. If your readers see you as an authority on a subject they are more likely to follow your recommendations. So if you recommend a few products or affiliate programs in your article or on your site some of your readers may buy from you or join your downline, especially those who enjoyed or were impressed by your article.

Hi David,

I admit, submitting free reprint articles is one of the major advertising paths I use for my own business.

I submit usually 1-2 a week to around 15 different article banks or announcement lists and also send direct to 19 ezines - who have all published my work previously and have asked to be included in a direct mailing whenever a new article is ready.

I use articles for these reasons:
1) Every article shows a link back to my site - increased link popularity
2) Many readers want to know if I've written anything else on their favorite topic, so they click over and visit my site
3) Being featured in 200+ ezines, magazines and newsletters around the world - several times! - has certainly established me as an authority in my field.
4) I tend to retain quite a lot of subscribers to my own ezine, once they've visited from an article link
5) Sales of my ebooks went through the roof when I started reprinting articles
6) For a professional writer, having a resume that includes being published in hundreds of publications means I can also sell future articles at a much higher price
7) It also means publishers and editors actually contact me and ask me to write on specific topics on occassion - and then pay me well for my efforts.

So.... yes, free articles have helped my business enormously.

From my own statistics, I can see a distinct pattern of:
- New visitors from article links,
- Same visitors joining (subscribing) to my ezine
- Most of same new subscribers visiting as many pages as my site can offer
- Many of same visitors buying my ebooks for further information that the site doesn't give them (on purpose!!!)

I hope this answers your question

Smile

I have come to realize that this is a VERY important issue:

I finished a 30-page eBook in my field 48 hours ago: Decided to publish it as a free book. Why: To increase my credibility and willingness to share information.

It has now been accepted, and will be published, on Friday, on my site, AND on a website that is probably the world's most used discussion forum in my niche!!!

In the book I have placed several links back to my site, in addition to getting a presentation and credentials block at that prominent site. I am a very happy man right now. They even asked me to come forward with future articles. And this is a site with strict commercial limitations...

I'll have that glass of wine now; it's been a good day...

Very Happy Yes, Debs, it's incredible! Laughing

I can't actually think of a better way to marketing oneself. Here is someone ranking insanely better than I can ever, I guss; also, for some of my keywords they have PPCs; they're the first thinhg you see on Google!

However; there is a little catch; you have to give away information you really would have wanted to be payable. But, I see the point here; giving more than the visitor expects, I guess I have it from Mr. Evoy, but it actually works great!

Hi,

Can I ask what the topic of your free ebook is?? We list heaps of free ebooks on our site and - if yours fits our own niche - I'll put in an announcement for you in our ezine, too.

Call it my thanks for everyone's help and support on this forum!

Lea,
My eBook is titled 'Entity Relationship Modeling - Principles'. - Really a niche topic!!!

It is about modeling databases (large/huge) in a cooperation between database analysts and business representatives. I try to teach the business representatives the benefits of modeling, in a way they can understand without being a computer freak - I try to use normal language, instead of all the technical bussword hiding.....
Before you consider anything, you can take a look at it here:

http://www.databasedesign-resource.com/entity-relationship.html

If you can use it, you are free to do so: After all it is a free eBook; I benefit from the links inside it. If you think you will benefit from it, even better, Lea. Just feel free about the use of it.

(Actually, I would love it if buyers of consultanty services read it; I could help them both saving money and avoid low-competance deliveries as well...That's part of my aim)

Oh my! You're right - it's really IS a niche topic!! And I thought I was in a narrow niche LOL!! Laughing

Honestly, until you explained the content behind the title, I was a little lost. I'm not entirely sure my "fiction novel writers" will understand the reference, but I'm still happy to put in a little blurb somewhere in the newsletter for you anyway.

Very Happy

Lea,
THAT i call niche, Laughing

Actually, it is the most widely used technique to describe complex/large relations between different types of information in a business system. If you think your readers will benefit, use it Very Happy I became curious as to what is your niche...

Um... My site and ezine focus entirely on "Fiction Novel Writers" - those weird and wonderful people who want to write fiction novels. You know the ones - they all want to be the next Stephen King or John Grisham or whatever.

But when you consider that a writer is really a small business - well they need business development tools, too!

Very Happy

Once upon a time, I fancied writing a novel myself...

It was to be semi-autobiographical and would contain a mixture of dream sequences and real life, but in a way that it was almost impossible to tell where one ended and another began. The reader would have to make up their own mind, but it would still read well, just mean something different to everyone. They'd be given clues (including some false ones) to help things along.

It would have been more an exercise in self analysis and the confronting of personal demons than a "traditional" best seller. I thought the idea was fantastic, but I was advised that publishers disliked books that looked like they were written as a means of self-therapy, so I never pursued it.

THE END.

I bet they're not the easiest types to "sell" on the benefits of such tools. Might need to get a little unconventional to do well.

All the best,
Charlie.
