Ive heard alot of good things about this site and, to be honest, I think I'm just trying to decide what package to go for.
I'm designing a site that is going to have a fair bit of graphics (the concept kind of revolves around it). I was wondering, is 10GB/mo bandwidth a reasonable allowance, or should I opt for a larger account?
cheers,
-Mark

10GB a month? Do you mean bandwidth? I assume. That should be fine at first, once you get lots of traffic and it comes close to maxing out your monthly allowance, upgrade to the next package.
*Shameless Plug* you could also check out DreamHost in my sig, they give over a Terabyte of bandwidth per month for cheap prices. (not to mention a good load of storage space & services). _________________ HIGHLY recommend DreamHost! for your hosting needs.

One of my sites (low graphics) gets about 20k unique visitors a month. Runs about 170k page views.
With those values, I run about 3.5 GB a month in bandwidth. The more graphics you have, the more bandwidth you run.
10 GB will get you started... after that, you can either pay a "over limit fee" (1and1 has some good rates there... $0.99 a Gig I think). or upgrade to a new package. _________________ Eric D. Burdo

Thanks for the replies. I'm actually in the UK, 1&1s deals here appear kind of underwhelming compared to the US deals:
Base pack available to U.S. residents - $2.99/mo, 5gigs of space, 250GB of transfer and a free .com domain
Base pack avialable to U.K. residents - ?4.99/mo (around $8 ), 800MB of space, 10GB transfer allowance (even the ?19.99/mo package only allows 80GB) and 1 free .co.uk domain (imo, less valuable than a .com)
I'll likely go with 1&1, based on their reputation. Start with the base pack and upgrade as necessary, here's hoping I have the need!
Cheers,

Register with the US 1and1 if you can. The only thing I could see that might prevent you would be having a credit card.
I don't know where the servers for 1and1 are located. Mine is in the UK somewhere, even though I am through 1and1.com. But then again, I got the free package, so I think that it's a different. _________________ Eric D. Burdo

| I had used 1 & 1 several months ago. They are fine unless you need customer service. Then forget it. The worst I have ever dealt with. Even getting a supervisor was a lesson in futility. I couldn't recommend them to anybody. From reading posts in various other forums, I was not alone with this issue. Just wanting to make you aware. |

I would want a site that I can trust as far as speed for your images heavy content to load as well as reliability. Lunar Pages is the most well known host and has 10x the bandwidth you are looking for as well as a free domain for $7.95 a month. Check it out for yourself below: _________________ Lunarpages

For beginners, 1and1 is perfect with 10G's.
But be very careful that you don't go adding more sites
that will end up sucking up your bandwidth.
I have never had any hosting issues with 1and1.
The only thing, I don't like is their Traffic Stats. _________________ Alex Marlin a.k.a achiever

There is no doubt 1 and 1 has some support issues lately. I used to get email replies within hours, now it is days. Suggest using the phone support instead. This is a growth problem I believe. Too popular.
I use the linux business package there, and for $9.99 a month (paid quarterly) I can host 100 domains. They pay for three domain names in the monthly price. Of course if you transfer them out or leave their service it will cost you. So I am putting minisites there and using them more for the multi domain hosting than all the bells and whistles they offer. SInce I use FP I have few support issues there, which I think are mostly ftp issues from my experience.
See my sig for a review site with them and other recommended alternatives. Yes I know there are others but I tend to want to go with larger companies that will be around at least as long as I will be. _________________ Your Free Pass to the Members-only ListBuild List
