Does anyone know anything about the href attribute 'nofollow'?

So in html link code you'd apply like:
<a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.">
Apparently the attribute deters the SE spider from following/valuing the link.. (this is what I was told anyway...havent done any research myself).

I've heard opinions both ways.. helps SEO, doesnt help SEO.

What do ya'll think? Does anyone use the 'nofollow' attribute? If so have you noticed a change in performance on the pages using the 'nofollow' attributes??

It has its uses. Use it on pages that you do not want to appear in the index. Most SE will respect the tag but not all of them

I dont think the nofollow attribute blocks a page from being crawled/indexed.. rather, from what I heard anyway, hrefs using this attribute won't be followed/valued the same... which means that if any negative weight is applied to Affiliate/redirect outbound links this could be helpful.

I am just looking for other's experience with the nofollow.. do others find that using the nofollow attribute on pages with Aff links help these pages rank favorably? From what I've seen personally, using these attributes certainly doesnt hurt.. just looking for opinions.

i too have been looking for this information.
and as google explicitly mentions this tag on its faq page,
i suppose it may help in elevating the search engine position of a site by some measure.

No follow is simple link where google will not follow that page but it might be considered in the ranking of site so that point of view its good method.
