It staggers me that a company could be so shortsighted, grabbing a quick $85 in the hand, but then receiving thousands of dollars worth of bad publicity in exchange. _________________ Allan Gardyne

To tell the truth, once the domain expires there is a "renewal grace period" during which it can be "restored" only by paying a fee. I don't know why, probably there is some manual procedure involving icann.
http://www.icann.org/tlds/agreements/org/registry-agmt-appg-19aug03.htm
The Icann has given some guidelines regarding fees, but i doubt the providers are listening to them...
It happened to a friend of fmine(an interesting story with an happy ending) and he had to pay about 80 Euros + vat (that's more than 100 dollars i think) to have the domain back during "grace period". _________________ -> Gareth <-

Normally I wouldn't find this topic terribly interesting. And I'd rather spend my time saying good things not bad things. I've used many hosts for many years. And while I have left some for poor service, not offering the features I need, etc. There is one host that I would AVOID at all costs.
ipowerweb
They also market under different names so be sure you know who you are dealing with.
I honestly wish I had something nice to say here. I gave this company every benefit of the doubt for months then I had simply had enough. After fighting with these people and months of batteling them to stop billing me for services I was not using I had to go to my bank to get the payments stopped. Who belittles customers? Just a dismal terrible customer service. You would think that they would be smart enough to recognize the downside of negative PR but they obviously are not. You would think they would be smart enoungh to check their own server logs to see I was NOT using their services. Nope.
You can find plenty of negative feedback about ipowerweb online. I tried to find some positive feedback and aside from Affiliate dribble nothing. I don't sell what I don't own. That's how I build trust in my visitors. Think about that the next time you are looking for something to promote.
I always chuckle when I read affiliate hype telling everyone how great they are (You'll find them on CJ and they pay the affiliate $80 to $100 so they have plenty of people pushing them).
With so many good hosts there is simply no reason to bother with Ipowerweb. _________________

So far I have had no problems with GoDaddy, HostGator or SBI (Site Build It). I have two sites with each of them and am very happy with all three.
Granted, Site Build It is a complete business building package but for what I want it to do, it's a terrific deal and saved me tons of time by not having to track down dozens of other programs I wanted or needed to get a business going online.
I have no direct experience with 1 and 1 or ipowerweb or DataWebPro but I hear many bad things about the first two and nothing but great things about DataWebPro, so they may be worth a look. _________________ Michael D. Walker

How do you like this? any feedback please? |
Not bad, but i have some doubts:
- The charge for additional domains: is that a one-time fee or a recurring fee ?
- Statistics: Which software is used ? Are they automatically configured for every additional domain and subdomain that i may create ?
- mysql: which version is installed ? There are some differences between 4x and 5x...
- What do you mean by mentioning (http://www.evidenthost.com/mod.php?mod=siteinfo&id=11)
"Macromedia Flash
Macromedia Dreamweaver
Macromedia Shockwave" ?
by the way they are Adobe now
Those are the doubts i've had while reading the offer _________________ -> Gareth <-

Well having been left high and dry (and out of pocket) by jv-hosting.net, I now need some good reliable and fairly cheap hosting for:
1. www.freedailycash.com - only a few web pages but need to be able to have a password protected directory for my gold members
2. www.computerincome.net - my main site and need more space as have article directory and link directory to host.
I will look at evidenthost's plan.

My 3 years with 1and1's promo pro package is almost up. In the 3 years I have had this pakage I have had very little problems. The occasional down time but nothing else.
I will probably stay with them but probably should have a host elsewhere to diversify a bit. _________________ Business Owners Guide to Going Online What every business owner needs to know about going online |

I have most of my domains from Namecheap. I like their interface, very user-friendly control panel. _________________ http://www.covergraphic.com - Stunning virtual cover design for your needs. |

Objective performance measurements are very helpful when you are analyzing a potential web hosting provider. Everyone mostly wants the same fundamental services that include: low prices, great service, and highly reliable performance. Uptime.netcraft.com provides a wealth of current measurments that can help you sort out the providers that really offer great service from those who just claim their service is great. Their "hosting providers network performance" data is fantastic.
One of the most important performance criteria, that is sometimes just taken for granted, is speed. Don't ever overlook the importance of fast information delivery. It really makes a bottom-line difference if your web site is consistently delivering pages in just a few seconds rather than double digits. Check the netcraft connection information to see who is really delivering.
Beyond uptime and speed the operating system orientation of a provider is also important to me. I like to develop for BSD or Solaris but if I have a Front-page extensions project to do my experience has been that it is better to choose a real Windows provider instead of hoping that the extensions will still work properly on a nix platform after the next upgrade is installed.
Also, don't forget to check usenet to read the latest posts from users who are having problems with their providers to make sure you are not about to join their ranks.
Cheers,
