Ok here's my problem. I'm building a site which i recommend hiking gear. I have 3 possible affiliate merchants to use.

Affiliates 1 and 2 sell their products at full retail price, offer 7% commission and if the the visitor returns and purchases within 120 days I get a commission.

Affiliate program 3 sells their products at 50-60% off retail price, offers between 5 -8% commission and their cookie expires after only 14 days.

For example the first 2 programs sell a hiking boot for $230 but affiliate program 3 offers the same boot for $80 dollars. I know I will shop at web site 3 for my hiking gear.

I would like to offer my readers the best deal with affiliate program 3 but the commissions would be alot less than the other 2 programs.

Do you think that their low prices will bring in more sales to make up for the low commission? And is 14 days long enough for someone to come back and buys something?

Thanks for your help

Shane

I don't like the 14 day cookie, but it's better than no return cookie Smile

As far as the prices being lower and increased sales? Absolutely! Especially if you provide links to all 3 programs, the discount one first. Visitors will compare! So give them the comparison.

If you haven't done business with these merchants however, I wouldn't "recommend" anything except the lower price. Once you do business with one or more, then you can put an honest recommendation as to which merchant to buy from.

Hi,

Is there any problem to offer both, and see who is better on the long run?

Remember it's actual $ per click that matters, nothing else. The only way you will really tell, is by sending 1000+ visitors (from the same source) to each merchant over the same time period, and comparing results.

Cheers,
Charlie.
