Hi,

Is it Kosher to insert adsense into a shared border of a site? For some reason I thought you have to put the code seperatly on each page, but a friend puts it in her shared border and they seem to serve relevant ads on the different pages... If this is possible it sure would save me lots of work...

Regards, and thanks all for all your wonderful help...

Hi Suzz,

I guess you are talking about Frontpage.

This is what the helpfile of Frontpage says about shared borders:

Frontpage helpfile wrote:
A shared border is a region on a web page that is common to one or more pages in a web site. A shared border may be a region at the top or bottom of the page (similar to a page header or footer), at the left, or at the right. Use shared borders to place the same content on multiple pages in one step, rather than editing each page.

Shared borders are just Frontpage's way to easily share a common region across a website. I believe it is "kosher", because Frontpage copies the data in the shared region across pages.

However, if you would use frames, and have a html page for that frame with only the adsense code (and maybe buttons), Adsense cannot target the content of pages in other frames. BTW, I would advise against using frames in any case, because it also greatly disturbs search engine crawlers.

One other thing to keep into mind: if you are using a shared border, it can be that the adsense code runs into pages that are not allowed by Google, such as search pages, registration, thank you pages and such (check out the policy). Make sure that you do not inadvertently violate the rules of Adsense, as this may result in Google ending the program.

If you keep this firmly in mind, I see no reason not to save time by using shared borders.

All the best,

Erwin.

Thank you for the answer. Yes, I meant in front page... I guess that I can disable the shared border for the pages that are not appropriate. I am still not sure though about weather Google reads that specific page and brings up relevent ads for that page...

Frontpage duplicates the data in the shared border into the html of the page. It is in the page just as if you had put it in by hand, so no problems there.

In short, Google reads that page with its code and will bring up relevant ads if it can.

Happy earnings!

Erwin.
