Post subject: Should I put articles I submit to directories on my own site

I've read through a lot of messages, but I cannot find a definitive answer. Should I be putting articles I submit to directories on my site?
I'm worried that my site will be penalized for duplicate content by doing this? Would it be my whole site be penalized if it was? Or only that article? Note: each article would have its own page.
Do you put articles that you submit on your own site?

It's debated for and against.. IMHO  for what it's worth I write a generic article that I send out to the directories, then tweak it a bit and place it on my site never the EXACT same article... Honestly I don't think it matters a heck of a lot b/c the pages that are on the Article directories and other peoples sites who may use your article are not the same as your site..
But for peace of mind I do change it a little bit. |

Your site will not be PENALIZED for duplicate content. Google may place that page in the supplemental results and not display it in the SERP, but they won't assign you a penalty.

Yes, but I post them on my own site first and make sure Google indexes that article before I submit it to directories. I've heard it come out of the Google Plex that they generally consider the earliest spidered page as the original and others duplicate. But what they consider "duplicate" is up for debate.

I place the articles I write on my site as well as other good articles I come across and publish in my ezine. If you have good proper content you will not be penalised.

I make a different version of the article for my own web site; publishing it on my article directory gives someone permission to republish it anyway
