Also, if you go into Live Chat, hopefully you will get a chance to talk to Arthur Riskal. He is the only IX technician I met so far who goes above and beyond the call of duty to help and he seems to actually know what he is doing. Perhaps if you aren't getting any satisfaction with any of the IX technicians you talk to, you can request to be transferred to Arthur. He did more for me in a few minutes than all the others did in months...
Good luck Dalmosh...

I've never had to wait a week for a response. Have you tried contacting them through Live Chat to ask them what's going on? The IX technician should be able to escalate your ticket, especially if it has been sitting unanswered for over a week. The most I ever waited for a response was 24 hours, and I was pretty pissed about that. The typical response times were between 12-14 hours, which isn't good either...

I would hope that IX is maintaining offsite backups of everything. At the bare minimum, their backups should not reside on the same server. It would be irresponsible if their backups are only stored on the same server as the regular site...
With that said, you really should be maintaining your own backups too. I would not put myself in a position where I depended on my host to do everything correctly. Since you do have control over your entire site, you should be maintaining your own regular backups so that even if the worst were to ever happen, you could recover...

this is what i do.
evry week i backup my entire site and forum.
Good thing happened today.
Finally I used the phone and called the support. It took 2 minutes and I was granted new server access. Guy could not believe how long have they been in denial about my problem. He said tickets and live chat is overseas and it su.. big time. they are looking in to that problem.
Now I have to transfer everything to the new server. FINALYYYYYYYYYYYYYY |

Don't forget to backup your database. Your forum code probably doesn't change much unless you are still adding MODs to it, but your database is very fluid. We backup our database every day because we would not be happy losing more than a day's worth of posts. You should base your backup schedule on how much you are willing to lose should something go terribly wrong. The busier your forum, probably the more often you should create backups of your database...

Isn't IX going to move your files, database(s), email accts, etc for you? They can do it a whole lot faster than you can. Chances are if the problem is only your web server, they won't have to move anything more than your code and everything else can remain where it is now...
If this move goes as smoothly as they did when they moved us, it should be nearly transparent to you and your members. IX performed this last server move for us flawlessly and there was never any downtime. They performed the task exactly like I would have done if I had been in control of the job. Few hosts I've seen even try to make server moves transparent even though it's not that difficult to do. It just takes patience on their part. Most hosts rush the job, which causes their members 24-48 hours of downtime..

IX webhosting was good for me for two years. I went through to my work when I graduated college. Packages is a good price for the service you get. I dont like the e-mail service on their own although they are used and the crowd was annoying for me. (Although it was okay, I mean I was the ninth for a period of 2 years!) The best thing is the ninth Live Chat support, and I almost did not wait more than a few minutes into the conversation directly with the person technical support for any problems or I had questions about my site and service. _________________ background reports |
